Question Suggestions? - '03 R6

I picked up a new R6 a couple weeks ago and am ready to make some minor mods... Here's what I'm considering right now:

Slip on
Power Commander
Fender Eliminator
Dark Double Bubble

I checked out Yosh's website and it doesn't show a slip on for a 2003 R6 and I don't know if the '02 model will fit b/c the bike is 90% different from last yr. From doing some reading I've heard of a few other good cans; akrapovic (spelling?), Hindle, m4, two brothers, D&D....it seems like there is a crap load out there. I really just want one that will sound and look tight without costing me over $350.

Anyone have any pics of '03 R6's that have been modd'ed. Mine's blue but I'd like to see what some other ppl have done....might help me get some ideas..

Anything such as links, prices - what should I pay for these mods?, pics, or just general advice would be a big help. I'm considering doing the fender eliminator myself b/c all it really does is reduces that big HUGE *** license plate braket and rids the rear blinkers...I'm sure I could buy a smaller bracket and some tiny blinkers and do it myself.

Thanks in advance!

If you plan on having yoru bike hit the ground at all, don't get Akrapovic.

Reason: It's Ti or Carbon. Neither of which area really great for a hard impact... and it's more expensive.

And if you get a slip-on, all slipons do the same thing -- make noise. You really get very little power increase out of a slipon.

If you want quiet (which I prefer), an Akra slipon is cool. But if you don't want to Akra prices, but get the same quality and similar sound, get a Leo Vinci.

I'm looking for a deeper sound...so next time I take a girl for a ride my bike won't sound like a lawnmower commin down the road....lol

I figured I'd just get a slip-on for now and then get the rest a little later... I'm not really "planning" on having the bike hit the ground but I guess no one does huh....

Thanks for the replies so far -

Well you sounded like me a month ago! I just got an akropovic and I love it! it was expensive! but I planned for my mods when I got the bike. I don't have a new pic w/ the pipe yet but the carbon fiber looks good on the black w/ red flames! I wanted just what you want....sound. I just got the slip on and my man installed it very easy!
Hindle is good sounding too! and cheaper. Two brothers has one for the R6 as well. I don't remember if Hindle did or not. I called a lot of people and asked alot of quesitons. DO NOT GET ANYTHING for an '02 it will not work!
Now I am looking into dampers....any advice from anyone? I like the Scotts because you can barely tell its there...
Good luck w/ your mods & have fun! post a pic when you get one!

No one has said anything about Micron. Are they any good?
They have some slip-ons that look pretty badass, I just don't know how they sound (or if they have one to fit my '03)

Here's a couple that would look badass on a blue bike:
http://micron-exhaust.com/store/phot...-silver4sm.jpg
http://micron-exhaust.com/store/phot...lk-blue1sm.jpg

By the way, Sha - I almost picked up the same bike you have, but they told me I'd have to wait a few days and they had the blue in stock....lol. I've seen quite a few ppl with that bike go with this slip-on from Micron:
http://micron-exhaust.com/store/phot...blk-red1sm.jpg

I questioned a salesman about dampers the other day and asked if they made a lot of difference. He has a '03 954 and said they help quite a bit. He said it may not on my R6 cause they don't shake (or vibrate) as bad or something like that..... Let me know if u get one and what you think of it.

Oh yeah I forgot about micron yeah I don't think they had one yet for the '03 but I liked them and Princess600 said she had one and it was good plus they are colored! Yeah if they have one for the '03 that would be good! just call & make sure it will fit the '03.

Hey I know what you mean I waited forever for my bike! they had the R1 in black w/ red flames but the R6 wasn't out yet. So I almost got really ancy and bought the R1 but I am glad I waited I really like the R6 it is perfect for me.

Have fun w/ your mods & don't forget to post a pic

You have an in-line 4, 600cc sportbike. It won't sound like a lawn mower, it will sound like a sewing machine.

But what you mean, the lawnmower sound, comes with the louder and louder pipes. Akra and Leo are the quietest of the common slip-ons.

Here's a range in sound of slip-ons:

Akra, Leo

M4, Yosh

Two Bros, Micron,

Devil, Graves, Mig

D&D

Sound increases when you get a full system. Akrapovic full systems are actually fairly loud. Also, most slip-ons won't fit onto a full system. Akrapovic, for instance, uses a larger diameter can and totally different midpipe section for their full system than their slip-on.

That kinda sucks, I'm glad you told me that though!
I just took for granted that a slip on is the 2nd half of a full system...

On the slip-on's, what you're callling quiet is a deeper sound....right? So going in order from top to bottom the ones on top are going to be the ones least like a "sewing machine".

Thanks for the info!

Actually, the quieter ones tend to sound more like a sewing machine.

Think of it like this:

Honda Civic... compare what one with a stock exhaust system sounds like compared to one that makes it sound like a bumble bee on steroids. The louder you go with a bike exhaust, the worse it sounds. D&D isn't deep at all, it's really raspy and shrill. Some people say they like it, I think they're lying because they don't want people to know they feel like they wasted their money on a **** quality/sounding/performance piece of exhaust.

It's going to sound like a sewing machine no matter what.

But if you want something with a relatively smooth sound but also 'deep' (in-line 4's don't get deep), you want a M4. They are good quality, decent performance, and have the sound you seem to like. I personally don't like the way the M4 slip-ons look, but I guess that makes me an image ***** for caring. Also, M4 supposedly has good customer service.

haha, that's pretty tight man.
I wanna get a blue rear seat cowl (I think that's what it's called).
But I kinda like taking them for a ride every now and then...what to do...hmmm.

My boy has an 03 R6 silver with the high mount carbon Micron. It looks tight, sounds really nice, very raspy and loud. I also have an 03 R6 black/red, I opted to get the Akrapovic Evolution full system. I'm still waiting for it tho.

Oh yeah. I've got the Scott's damper, I love it. They are expensive, but very worth it. I would go with that or Ohlin's. They seem to get the most praise.

As far as which pipe....
I have an Akra - Carbon slipon on my '01 R6 and its loud enough.
Its nice and quite in the low range - and screams when you are up above 10k. When you get the pipe, you notice the engine sound more than the wizzin' of your trans.

I have the scott's damper too.
It's great. Bike feels solid. Dial the thing down while idling through rush hour traffic, crank it up when you pass them all.

I took the bike in yesterday to get the chain tension set and talked with a salesman about those ugly *** blinkers and bracket.
I told him I didn't really want to pay $150 for a fender eliminator when it looks like something I could do myself....He agreed. He thinks there is a kit out that converts your brakelights into blinkers as well (not sure on price). If not, I talked to a guy the other day that had a nice 954 RR with these tiny black tinted blinkers. He said they were only like $30 for the pair (back) and they looked good. They have the same tinted flush mount for front, not sure on price.

All that holds that bracket on the back is 4 small bolts. You just take off your rear seat and you'll see them. I took it off the other day to see how hard of a job it would be. The only think that struck me as a pain in the *** would be the wiring. I couldn't take it all the way off b/c the wires to the blinkers don't pull out of the bracket...my only guess was that you'd have to cut the plastic a little. If you get it done before me post a pic, it'll look a hell of a lot better!

I think there is a place near you "Texas Ferring" that will integrate your taillight into blinkers also. Do a search on the web for their site. I have seen it but I am in Fl and I would have to take it off send it to them & wait...plus now I am hearing this is not a legal turn signal

I might just opt for something small and compact. I am not sure If I want to go putting holes on the tail for the flush mounts...I will let you know if I find something good. I am just going to go out & check out some other bikes and see what they have.

When I do get it done I will post a pic for ya

Texas Fairings or whatever the place is called sucks. Their products suck, and they have shitty customer service.

Also, to integrate your blinkers into your taillights, you can't use just a regular old trailer wiring harness kit because you have LEDs. These kits cost $12 -- it's what I have. But I have the 99-00 taillights that have regular bulbs, not LEDs. The kits for LEDs cost like $50.

Just unbolt the rear plate holder and make something yourself out of aluminum. A sheet of aluminum will cost you like $5. Cut and bend it as necesarry, then bolt that up. It will look nice and clean.

Just FYI: messing with your lighting system is against the law. That being said, I've been pulled over having no mirrors, rear turn signals integrated and barely noticeable, and front signals in the upper corners of the headlight assembly like the Eur-asian market has. No problems.
