Selling a bike ethics?

When you sell a bike is it standard to not allow test rides? I dont want people to think I am trying to hide something, but Im not big on the thought of them wrecking on a test ride and being stuck with the bill. I was thinking you pay me the money and if you bring it back with in a predetermed time and in the same shape then I will give you your money back if you didnt want it. Do dealerships offer test rides? I did not test ride it when I bought it. How do yall do it?

Re: Selling a bike ethics?

I give test rides on my bikes. They leave their vehicle at my place while they test ride my bike. I like to view their licences so I know where they live.

Re: Selling a bike ethics?

Hold there license and confirm there is A MC endorsement on it.
Also hold a cash deposit on it 100 for every thousand. One time I let
a guy I new test ride a bike I had for sale.5 hours later I find out its
impounded.Thankfully I had a 400 deposit.It was 150 to get it out and
I figured the rest was mine for a terrible day and alot of stress.
I never seen the guy again. You just never know. I wouldnt consider A
test ride without ID and cash.If this cant work offer to take them
for A ride.

Re: Selling a bike ethics?

I've done this 2 different ways depending on the rider's experience.

If the rider has little or no experience, I just give them a ride on the bike. I go through all of the gears, braking, get up to highway speed, etc. Once the cash is in my hand, the deal is done, no refunds.

If the rider has some or a lot of experience, I make them pay me first. If they drive it and don't like it, they can return it to me in the same condition they took it and I'll give them a full refund.

I've let someone test ride my bike before and he wrecked it. It was at night and I didn't see the damage until about 30 minutes after he left and I was never able to get a hold of him again.

No cash, no ride. No exceptions.

Re: Selling a bike ethics?

as a buyer of multiple used bikes i have also done it both ways...ive gotten the good faith system twice and i just rode the ***** round the block real hard so they could hear me....

cash in hand also weeds out the lowballers n ****, make sure they have M1 and money and maybe even a loose contract, if u break it i keep the deposit......type thing

i hand them the keys and tell them not to worry about a helmet i trust them and that they should feel the power band in 5th gear all the way to redline on residential roads.

Yeah, i let them test drive it first, but they have to give me their keys, their wallet, and leave their car at my house. I let them take the bike for about three hours.

Re: Selling a bike ethics?

F that don't do it.
Years ago i was selling my first bike and this thing was all hooked up, i had so much money on that thing.
Kid rides it, wrecks it, almost dies, i save his life, and i got no money and almost got sued for not having insurance. Don't do it.
Put them on the back ride them around, shift thru all the gears then tell them to pull out the green or pound sand.

Re: Selling a bike ethics?

Id let them ride it as long as they had money in hand that I could hold while there riding.

When I bought my bike the guy just asked if I had money I said yup and handed it to my friend and I took it for a spin.
