01 gixxer750 tranny prob??? (new bike)

ok i found a 01 gixxer 750 that is in my price range for a stunning new bike. haha seriously though did all the '01 have tranny problems??, what signs should i check for if i go look at it???
i also found a really decent looking f4i, but it's $500 more than i have, gotta see if i can talk em down. i'd rather have the f4i, i think, but either look good right now. so help me out....TED

It was mostly the 2000's with the tranny prob, but some of the 01's have it too... It affects second gear mostly. As much as I hate gixxer.com, it'd definetley be the best place to find more info about it

the 2000's were the problem childs. I don't think i have talked to one person who hasn't had 2nd replaced in their 2000. Stay clear of that bike. The 01's somewhat have the problem too. Thats mainly due to poor clutchless upshifting.

my 2nd gear went in on my old 2000 ... and I blew a clutch basket into two pieces... the shittiest thing was when i was doing 2nd gear standups and it would pop out of gear and start going down only to pop back in gear somehow and shoot me back up! It was scary sometimes... OUT she went ...BUt i loved the bike. Would even buy another one ..just 2002 and up

I have had my 750 since new and now it has over 11000 miles on it with no problems with the trans and I have been beating the **** out of it from day one and still have the original clutches, I guess synthetic oil works after all

MY 00 has the second gear pop.since i got it with around 153 miles on it(recoverd theft).trans locked up around 5300 miles.replaced motor to have the same problem.now still going wit 10800 miles.learned to deal wit it to lazy to repair.wheelie game is in all first or third.who needs second.skip over while riding.put in factory pro shift detent works well snaps into all gears but the second needs to have the sixth gear dogs replaced wit the drive gears.shift forks are prob. bent too.have all part numbers and prices for repair....doing it in the next monthalwayz use the clutch that what causes the problem

well the f4i is sold already, so it might be the gixxer, btw it's a good deal i think, $4000 for an 01 750 with just light body damage. doesn't sound too bad to me. unless somebody knows of a better deal involving a 900rr or f4i.....thanks......TED

i have a 01 gixxer 600 and the trans went out on it it was 2nd and 6th that are mated togather, the dogs get worn just slightly on the edges on the 2nd gear and the receaving dogs on the 6th gear and itl pop out and go back in. i pulled mine down, really not bad at all to do yourself, forks were worn also and ive had it togather for a full year and not a problem since any questions let me know gixxero1pimp@hotmail.com

do some research
thw 00' and 01 gixxer 750 and the 01' 600
hade mad tranny issues.
the problem comes from a hollow shift shaft with a nut on the end. the net was never properly tightend by factory, and also no lock-tight on it. so what would happen is the nut would start to spin backwards towards the clutch and first you would start to get the 2nd gear jumping out. if you didnt bring it toa dealer or fix it yourself and let it go, it would eventuly spin all the way back and sease the motor.
