replacing clipon

Changing the clip on a 02 R1, but i am unable to remove the deal inside the clipon that holds the bar end. this little bastard is glued in or something. Is this something i was also supposed to buy with the clipon, a one time use thing. Well thanks for any help

did you just buy the bar? I dunno on the yamahas, but on the gixxers, you cant just buy the bars unless you have aftermarket clipons cause the ****in bar doesnt come off the stock clipon.

You can take the bar off on the katanas like mikem's though, I put a vortex clipon for a gixxer on an 02 katana last week and it works good. Just check the clipon, if there is no bolt holding it in, then you are probably going to have to buy a whole new clipon with a bar thats not bent up.

Kawasaki is known for the same thing!!! I found out you need the allen wrench socket and a 3/8 ratchet to get them puppies off. You will notice a paste like locktite on the bolt. Leave it and reuse it if you can.

Oh yea, it is easier to do it on the bike for support.....
