stator question
stator question
I have a brand new stator cover that is supposed to be for a '96' 900rr. I bought a motor off of a guy that said it came out of a '96' but the stator cover I ordered ('96')does not fit, what year did Honda change the 900 motor? Are '98' motors different then '96'? The cover lines up good but the stator does not fit. all help is greatly appreciated!
Re: stator question
What you should do is get the vin# off the engine so you can get have your local parts store run it for you. They can tell you the year if what the guy who sold it to you believed was wrong.
As far as differences in engine the 96-97 were pretty much the same. 98 they added a larger carburator and the pistons were upgraded (not really quite sure how but i know they're diff)
prolly haven't been much of a help but good luck man.

Re: stator question
Ive Put A 99 Stator In A 97 Before And It Worked Fine. Double Check Yourself And Make Sure You Are Not Missing Anything, Then Double Check With The Shop You Got It From. If They Are Anything Like The Guys That Work At My Shop They Probably Got You The Wrong ****.
Re: stator question
Ya i am pretty sure they ordered the wrong part. the problem is that the actual stator does not fit over the guide that is fixed to the inside of the cover. I will just take the vin to the shop and see if they can cross reference that for me I thought they were all pretty much the same but guess i am wrong.
Thank for all the help
