Question Oil pickup for a 96 Gixxer

Hey guys. Does anyone know if the oil pickup for a 96 SRAD 750 needs to be modified? I know it does on the later ones but not sure for this model.

I used to have a 97 6 and never had dramas with it though I wasn't doing real slow stuff back then. Id say that all bikes are designed with the idea that they will have 2 wheels on the ground for the most part. Some bikes are more prone to blowing up after lots of vertical action and others aren't. I'm not too sure about the SRAD's...maybe try the US side of the forum cos there would be more cats stunting different bikes there. The easiest way though is just to run a little extra oil in her.

Peace.

OK, stuntex don't do one for anything pre 2000, so that aint alot of help. Any other suggestions? I'm fairly new to this and don't know where to look.

Thats why I didnt say buy one...cos there really isnt much kit around for the older bikes. I'd still say that you should post your question in the general section of this site so you reach all the US riders...there's not that many dudes who do this in OZ so your info is a lot more limited. Maybe someone has one they made up and can give you the specs for it.

Also you say your "new to this". Does this mean stunting in general? If so you will not need an oil pick up straight away for any bike you ride. Is your bike geared? Are you doing slow wheelies and scraping tail? If not then dont even worry about a pick up dude. My 2c

Lastly, oil pick ups arent a guarantee anyway, I blew 2 motors on my gsxr1000, one with a pick up, the other without.

Thanks mate. When I say "new", I mean at the level of starting slow stuff and tail scrapes.

I'll post up over there too, see what anyone can help with.

The oil pick up takes the oil from the bottom of your engine (sump) and pumps it back around. Bikes aren't designed for being vertical so the pick ups are genrally towards the front of the engine. So when your up on one wheel for long enough, the engine can starve itself of oil and then you get major problems and unfriendly knocking sounds
So you modify or buy a modified one which picks the oil up from the back of the engine.

Just a quick question buz,

if you got the pick up at the back ?? What happens when I start to do long stoppies? Will it starve oil in reverse effect of moving the pick up to the rear?

Re: Oil pickup for a 96 Gixxer

that won't matter on your 1000rr. but the oil light will come on when doing stoppies with some bikes running modified oil pick ups. but it's not so bad as the engine is only idling with no load. it means less oil to your cams and tappets but its no issue for your big end bearings.
