How much do sprockets help?
How much do sprockets help?
:YEAH After seeing Benders post with that ridiculus serving dish on the back
(OMG, Do ya reckon they could make a bigger one... )
It just got me wondering do you have to change your cogs??
I know this is gonna start a big debate, but I have a clip of a guy doing stunts and circles on a stock geared CBR1000RR and they are about 1-1.5m in diameter!
I think I will leave mine standard on this bike!
Oh, and see you all on the 26th :YEAH
And none of you better complain about being
cos I am too but I'm goin!!

Re: How much do sprockets help?
I think it does, but to a degree. A 55 for me is great, and 1st gear is still usable. I recon going any bigger would mean 2nd gear would be like 1st gear and 1st gear.. well, would it be any good? On top of that, if you use your bike on the road like I do, a 15/55 is enough as 6th gear at 100kph is around the 5,500rpm mark. Plus, it looks GEHAY :P

Is it hard to get a chain once you get bigger rears?
Re: How much do sprockets help?
I know you guys are talking about Hondas but I am -1 +18 and a 120 link chain will reach.
It sux *** most of the time , I can say "ooh look I can lift it in sixth gear" but that doesn't mean **** when your bike is revving 6000 at 80kph and you cannot go anywhere
I don't even use first gear on the street and wish I had about 4 more gears
the only reason you go extreme in gearing is to get a crawler first gear , if I could get a custom first and leave the rest stock that would ROCK :YEAH

Re: How much do sprockets help?
Std on a 98 900RR is 16/43, so when I went 15/54 I was still trimming down the chain!
Like Ned was saying, it's great for slow stuff and essentially, I thing being a good stunter is all based around the slow stuff (that's why I'm crap). And if you intend on riding the bike long distances comfortably big sprokets will **** you off.

I agree, but I think we are just following the American trends because it is so accessible. Those of you who have seen that clip of Christian Pfiefer winning the world championship a couple of years back might agree that he was o entertaining because his routine was a little faster and much more flowing. His slowest speed would have been achieveable on the 15/47 gearing I had on my Blade which was fine even cruising to Melboune from Adelaide. Plus I could lift the front from a standstill.
