freestyle with a four stroke

I Just got a CRF250 and was wondering if anyone is doin freestyle with them? Ive been racing basically my whole life and i can jump the bike very good. Me and a couple of my friends are building a freestyle ramp and i dont know how the decompression braking is going to effect pulling tricks. Ive just heard that not that good for for doing freestyle and i was wondering if this is true?

Re: freestyle with a four stroke

Are you talking about engine breaking? Just keep on the throttle all the up the face of the jump and you should be fine. I think Trevor Vines used to use a YZF400

Mad mike also use to then he crashed and broke his neck when it stalled in air, i HEARD. The engine breaking would cause the rear end to come up, but i hear crfs have almost none. Pro racers use 4 strokes and they are fine jumping, go for it.

I believe he just came up short on a 90 foot kicker but I don't know if the bike stalled, your right about him busting his back.

Re: freestyle with a four stroke

If you don't like the effects of engine braking, you can get a slipper clutch which lets the bike freewheel like a 2-stroke. They're rather expensive though. This months issue of MX Action tested one and it cost 800$.

Re: freestyle with a four stroke

Dont buy that bs, it would really suck for a 2 stroke, unless you have a clutch overide.

What's up crispy....Methuen MA here....I just bought a 03 CRF 450. I only rode it once so far. Still not sure what to think about the 4 stroke, I've been riding 2 strokes for years, it's definitly going to take some time to get use to. Anyway, I use to live and ride out in cali but now I moved here and was looking for a track or someplace with jumps to ride at. You know of any good spots?

Re: freestyle with a four stroke

Out Behind Whittier Tech In Haverhill Theres A Pretty Decent Pit, A Few Nice Spots To Climb Couple Nice Jumps, Just A Cool Place To Screw Around. Theres A Huge Pit Up In Biddeford Maine. 2 Hour Ride, But Well Worth It Its 2 Huge Pits, Like Something Youd See In A Dirtbikn Movie, Tons Of Sand Gravel, Crazy Jumps. Other Than That Not To Much. There Startn To Close Down Alot Of The State Trails Even Through Hampstead Sandown And Windham New Hampshire. They Slowly Are Taking More And More Away. Good Luck Let Me Know If You Find Any Other Places To Ride.

Re: freestyle with a four stroke

Its only for 4-strokes xid...I don't think they make them for 2-strokes and they wouldn't need to anyways.
