03 ktm 125sx opinions

I have a friend whos selling a 03 ktm 125sx for $1900. Its in immaculate shape. I've been hell bent on getting a 250 but ive read that the ktm has an awesome engine(more powerful than jap 125's). Whats your opinions on this bike? I plan on riding at a friends track a majority of the time. This guy owns a pool company and has a giant track with two tabletops, a load of doubles and a stepup.Since he owns all the heavy equipment he tends to change up the track often. I believe he rides a ktm 250. Thanks for any input.

I used to sell ktm's, the 03 125's are very powerful, deffinately more so than the jap bikes, but you sacrifice a couple things since you are gettin the most powerful engine out. the suspension is straight up supercross supsension, meanin stiff as **** and very unforgiving. Also the front forks have a problem with heating up and warping and wearing ur seals out quicker therefore you will be changing the fork seals often and they arent cheap. maintenance is key on these bikes, the engine runs so strong it will literally shake the bike apart if you dont do ur maintenance after every ride and the way the filter box is built it lets in a lot of air and also a lot of dirt so you must clean the filter after every ride also! they are a lot of work but a nice bike, not worth $1900 tho unless the bike is spotless and runs extremely well!!!

Yo TomASS,

I recently got a ktm 125 like 4 months ago, and its awesome bro. I smoke yz's in a heartbeat...and i just got into riding so either my friends bikes arent fast or they just suck. But yea its very fast and a strong engine but i got pretty used to it fast. The parts on my bike hardly get loose, like after a couple rides mayb 1 little bolt might b loose but no bolt that has to deal with the engine ever gets loose. But yea i love the bike its really reliable and nice looking. And my forks are fine too the seals are perfect and iv been ridin 4 months straight jumping and riding woops and its fine so yea. If u got any questions ask me dude.

I rode ktm's from 96-2004, they are great bikes. I'd do it.

2003, 125's. retail 1800-2300 or so......a quick sale 1600-1800, yeah the KTM 125's put out more power than any other production 125 jap bike but im sure the suspension sets it back of the handling department....the bike to have is the newer yz125 .......best motor in the class (smoother, not the most hp), lightest, awesome suspension and the parts are cheaper and easier to come by than a KTM....I dont have a favorite manufacturer...all bikes this day in age are awesome.

the parts cost the same, and are as available as any other bike nowadays. Back in the mid to late 90's that was true, the suspention is also good and with proper set up OR mods it works without a problem, depending on your weight and riding level it (susp) may feel a bit stiff. They are set up stock for more aggressive riders. All bikes nowadays are pretty even, it comes down to which one works best for you.

your exactly right, all bikes are competative these days.....you can almost choose the color you like best; red, blue, yellow green, orange and you cant go wrong....ya dig?

Re: 03 ktm 125sx opinions

regardless of manufacturer, even a worked 125 will be slow in comparison to a 2-stroke 250... if you want a bike for FMX, get a 250... 125's are fun to ring out and beat on, but they require more matainence and 250's are more forgiving when it comes to FMX... just my 2cents
