Valve shims
Valve shims
2000 Yamaha WR400f
I'm going to check my valve clearance tomorrow. The dealer said they'd do it for $115. They said that even if the valves don't need adjusting they replace the shims. I'm hoping my vavle clearance is good, because I don't want to pull the valves apart. Do you guys change shims even when the clearance is fine?

Re: Valve shims
Yea, on mx 4 strokes (besides KTM) you have to use shims and cant adjsut them like old 4 strokes. 4 stroke MX bikes are high maintinance and cost alot more to maintain. You got lucky because the yzf/wr400 is a very reliable machine.

Well my intake valve clearances are at the top of the tolerance, but the exhaust valve clearances are about .004 to big. I didn't want to pull everything apart to change the shims (never done it) and dealer wants $115 to do it, so will I be okay?
