Re: crf450 2004

all late bikes made for motocross ARE FAST. it is really all about the rider. if you are seriously into motocross racing or even jumping before you do any thing else to the bike, get the suspension talyored to your needs, that 4-stroke packs quite a punch, I 'd say get it and get the suspension re-done.

That sounds about right but I think you would have to gear it a little.

Re: crf450 2004

who cares about top speed of a dirt bike, unless your doing cross country racing and for that kinda stuff you wouldnt want that hot of a running bike, you want more along the lines of a xr600.....i say that because the 450s and 250f's have a shorter stroke (as a 2 stroke motor would) thats how they get the 4 strokes to run with the 2 strokes in mx,ax, and supercross.....

Re: crf450 2004

Your gonna have a load of maintinance on it. Should get a 2 stroke. They are much less maintinance and are cheaper to maintain that a 4 stroke. Plus funner.

Re: crf450 2004

you guys dont know anything, 2 strokes are alot more maintinance than 4 strokes, ok can anybody listen to what im saying a 2 stroke is called that because it takes 2 stroke on each fire, on a 4 stroke it takes 4 strokes on each fire, so you tell me which motor you will have to be replacing the top end in after a period of time???? ok let me make this glass for you peeps, 2 strokes run at so much higher rpms its going to wear faster on the cylinder....another statement 2 strokes you have to mix the gas, 4 no!, 2 strokes a bit lighter but nowa days now by only a few pounds, im not doging 2 strokes cause thats all i ever raced but every crf450, rmz, and the 250fs just run super fast......

Re: crf450 2004

Yea your right davis...

but what would you rather do, a rebuild on a 2stroke, or a rebuild on a 4 stroke?

Sure 4 strokes are much more reliable and all, but when hardcore stripping and matinence is needed, its a shitload harder then a 2 stroke.

Re: crf450 2004

i agree with davis and f1 i own a cr250 and that thing cost me a ton of money. gas every 4 gallons thats 8 dollars i have to spend a nother 5.50 for oil. then piston and rings every 25 hours and that is pushing it. get the crf450 because the 2strokes are alot of work but if all you want to do is ride get the crf450 and rebuld it every year.

Re: crf450 2004

2 strokes are definetly more maitence in the short run but in the long run the 4 stroke is actually more maitenance. You might have to replace the top end on a 2 stroke every couple of races but as long as you run the proper mix ratio, and do everything your supposed to thats about it. On a 4 stroke though more things have to be maintained every time you rebuild like valves, cams, stuff like that. Basically what im sayin is a top end rebuild for a 2 stroke might be like 200 bucks for like 2 months while a 4 stroke might be 400 over 4 months. All this also depends on the type of riding your do and how ofeten you do it.
