Okay... got her all done!

actually... found this beauty at a friends house. It's an 84' XR500. This thing is in incredible shape for being 20 years old. It makes mine look like poop! Check out the original bars and grips... plus the seat, fender bag, and number plates! Sick....

Negative Ghost Rider. That bike has the dual carbs. You can't see the other one cause they're side by side. They stuck with the two carbs for 4 years.

Re: Project XR..... w/pics

well... this thing may take longer than I thought. Found a nice crack in the case last night near one of the mounting holes for the clutch cover. That's were my oil leak was coming from. If anyone knows a quick fix to an aluminum case crack... holla. I'm looking into a puddy that hardens or something to help seal it up.

well... I don't think that's possible without tearing into the gears and oil pump components. Where the crack is... is a pretty tight area. Yes, welding could fix the problem.... But I'd really like to have this thing ready to ride before Vermont.

Re: Project XR..... w/pics

yup.... if the main pivot bolt is rusted in there.... take a sledge hammer to it. It's a straight shot out the side of the frame. Doubt you'll do any damage hammering on it... unless you miss and hit your frame.

Re: Project XR..... w/pics

Here's some shots of the crack in my main case. As you can see in the highlighted pic... the bolt hole cracked on the inside, causing oil to leak at that spot because the bolt wasn't tourged down enough. Sorry about the shitty quality of my cam... it doesn't like the upclose dark shots.

I used a product called aluminumworks(sp?) to reshape the hole. I first chipped off all the old product which I think was some sort of puddy deal. Then scrapped the hell outta the contact area with a screw driver and applied the aluminumworks. I left one of the bolts in place while packing this new stuff around it. When it hardened... I had a new hole and it was already threaded... I just unscrewed the bolt. I've still gotta sand it down smooth and reassemble the case... but it's on it's way!

Here's the a shot of the motor... and a close up of the bolt sitting in the hole waiting to be packed in with the new aluminumworks puddy. Sorry... my battery went dead after I layed on the puddy.

We'll see. I did my best with that aluminumworks puddy. It's harden nicely over the past couple days. I'll be grinding it smooth to sit flush with the case and reassembling at the end of the week.

Waiting on parts.... today or tomorrow(7/2). The crack is fixed.... still waiting on the gasket to see how it holds up.

I'm leaving CO on the 14th now... be in NY by the 15th visiting my brother.... I'll be at the riding party on the 18th.
