After all my talk about saving to buy a house, I just dumped $550 into my bike..... my mtn bike that is! The thing doesn't even have a motor! But she'll be a sweet ride by next week. Still waiting on a few parts. I'll post pics when it's finished.

dude its an addiction....we all have it...you put the money into that bike though and you use it....its not like a woman buying 20 purses and she may use one of them once....i'll use my quad, and if not i know how to make my money back off of it... i've also learned that i dont buy new where i dont have to....high wear parts yes, but i've bought all my suspension used...at i'd say a 1/3 of what i'd have bought it for new. And everything i bought i can sell for what i've put into it.

Slink - Yeah I knew the shock was used but the Houser arms look pretty clean. I thought you paid like 3500 for the quad alone.

Drew - your mtn bike is gonna be gnarly. Are you still on the the same pair of pads on your Disc setup?

nah i paid around 2k for the quad...

Houser a-arms new would be 625
Swingarm new is about 650
Axis rear new would go for around 750
TCS zps front shocks new are 875
there's 2900 in suspension parts.... i picked everything i have up for...1260 and that included shipping...so i think i'm making out ok...i'd never do this if i had to buy all those parts new.

HA! My fronts are the same from when I first built the bike 4 years ago. The rears have had two sets with a 3rd new set going on tonight.

Here's what's up...

Stripped the bike to it's bare metal frame. Painting it all flat black.

Bought new:
-Front tire (Maxxis holly roller to match the rear, size 2.4)
-DH tube (thicker than standard)
-Head Shox Tora Fork with lockout 83mm to 130mm of travel
-Front brake line
-Stem
-Grips
-XT 07' 9speed Shifters w/cables & housing
-XT 07' 9speed front and rear derailers
-XT 07' Crank, crank arms, and 3ring sproket set
-Bottom bracket
-Rear brake line
-XT rear brake pads
-XTR front axle (lighter than the stocker in my XT hubs)
-XTR 9speed chain

Everything on the bike is getting full attention. Should be a close to brand new bike when I'm done.

Re: My frankenstein quad will be alive soon!

Take it from someone who actually HAD a white frame - don't do it.

I agree. Why would you want the most neutral color for a frame on a dirt toy? It's going to show every little spec of dust, dirt, mud, poo, and grease. I painted my 91' CR frame white back in the day and it was a bitch to keep clean.

Re: My frankenstein quad will be alive soon!

So put on some A-arms, a motor, swingarm and axle - bolt the wheels on, zip tie the plastics on... etc.
