Monster House - My plumbing experience

Project started at 8pm Friday night and ended last night at 1am.

The project consisted of gutting all the old plumbing out of the house and installing a new hot and cold fresh water supply.

Friday night: Pick up a huge bag, cases of beer, and get wasted. Once buzz set in went into the basement and started planning the project.

Saturday morning: Plan out new hot and cold fresh water supplies
Saturday Afternoon: Buy material and cut out old piping
Saturday night: Start installing new pipe go to sleep at 3am

Sunday: Wake up at 7am and continue installing new pipes from 8am to 4am the next day

Monday morning: 4am finsihed installing pipes and turn on water and find 4 leaks all on hot water lines, drain hot water
Drive back to Bedford, go to work, test a module, and leave work early to get the water back running at my friends house.
Monday Afternoon: Get back to Framingham at 3pm and fix 4 leaks and finish a few odds and ends
Monday night: System is working, no leaks
Tuesday morning: Rolling back into Bedford, NH at 1am with being up for 40 hours straight and time to get some sleep

Material: 150’ of 1 pipe
30’ of ¾ pipe
20’ of ½ pipe
Circulator pump
tons of valves, t’s, elbows, 45, etc
3 spools of solder

Leaks: There were 4 leaks in the system. 1 from forgetting to solder the pipe, 1 was from a bad solder joint that was right on a wood joist. The last two were from threaded joints, one at the meter and the other at the hot water heater. I thought that was pretty good for the first time doing a job this large.

Results: Great volume flow and water pressure using 1" pipe for mains, ¾ and ½ for all branches. There is a hot and cold shut off's at every branch and also a few 1 valves at the hot water heater and filter. New washer hookups, cold water spicket back yard, fridge, 3 bathrooms, humidifier, kitchen sink, and dishwasher

Bonus: While getting a pretty good buzz I decided to get creative and add a bonus feature into this system. I picked up a circulator pump and from the end of the hot water 1 main run I reduced the pipe to ½ for a return run back to the hot water heater where I installed a circulator pump and T’ed into the hot water heater drain valve. This allowed instant hot water at all showers and faucets. No more turning on the shower and waiting for the hot water,

I was amazed that we pulled this off in a weekend without ever doing a plumbing project like this before. It felt so good looking at the completed system knowing the size of the project, the time frame it was completed, and the amount of money we saved. Now my friend can say he has big pipes!!!

The jeep is fun. I just need to fix a few things. You should have played in the swamp and also on the rocks!!! I have yet to take it into the swamp after last time but now I got myself some 38.5" swampers.

Your brother and I tried to move the wood stove but it was too heavy. The three of us need to drag that into the shop this weekend so I can hook that up and also the 100,000 btu gas fired one in the two car garage. That is this weekends goal.
