Best thing I have bought for my 50 yet.

A stator from Baja Designs and a cheapo driving light from AutoZone. There are more plans for the bike being street legal by Spring. Not in a hurry right now.

Check this out to see it in action.

They are full of ****. Go to the state of michigan website, then the Secratary of State link and it tells you what you need.

Lo/bright headlight,horn,mirror,tail/brakelight at the minimum.

Now, if you can get a dumb cop to inspect it your results may be different.

I just got my bike running... wound the stator... the wire cost about 10 bux. took about 1 hr and then ran the wires, voltage regulator, switch and light. It is awesome and bright as hell. I had a time with the recommended regulator... so I got one off a 97 XR600... it was perfect!!!!

The regulator that my dealer sells seems to be working fine so far. I bought the stator from Baja Designs because I didn't want to fug around with winding that bitch up. I need to put a switch on for now. I also just picked up the left switch set off a sportbike. I need it for the street legal kit. I will wire the turn signal switch as an on/off for the headlights, then will use the existing lo and hi switch for headlights. Horn button will work also. The headlight bracket we built will come off in about 5 minutes for daytime dirt riding.

I think I was the first here to have a headlight on my 50. The stator is a Ricky stator.

Re: Best thing I have bought for my 50 yet.

Here are the headlights. I need to paint the bracket after all the test fitting is done. Once that happens the fender and number plate go back on so it will look better. :YEAH

How much output on that stator and is it DC or AC?

RICKYSTATOR 50 STATOR max output is 90 watts.

Be careful with that setup of 2 lights. I used to have 2 like you but one was just there for looks or an emergency when the other went out. Those Fog lights are 55 wats and X2 they are 110 watts which is way more than your 50 stator is designed to support at max load. Max load is 90 watts. You can use those dual lights together but you will have to use 35 watt H3 bulbs which are harder to find in a store but can be ordered from www.rickystator.com or any other GOOD auto parts store. Total output then will be 70 watts Going over a stators max load will lead to dim lights and premature burn out of the stator.

The Baja Designs is 110 output. You are correct. I need to get a 35w bulb. I will run the bottom light as the lo with the 35w and then the 55w as the high bulb. I was going to pick up some PIAA 35w lights but forget that, they were $115 for the set. :choke: :gasp:

I am trying to keep the entire street legal conversion under $200 with parts that I have in my shop. I will come close. I don't think it can be done if you have to start from scratch though.

Re: Best thing I have bought for my 50 yet.

The regulator keeps it at 12-14 volts AC. I wsh it was DC. The tech at Baja Designs said that stator wouldn't power my L.E.D. tail/brake light I built. It did. I don't want to burn them out though. They cost a lot of cash. I had them on my big bike when I eliminated the rear blinkers.

theres nothing to be careful of, you wont burn out the stator like eddie thinks. hes just a ***** and is scared to do anything. worst case scenario is that your 2 lights wont be as bright as 1 light. i been runnin all sorts of light combos for almost a year now with zero problems. dont be a puss, wind it yourself and dont pay that dickbag ricky a dime for his taxin *** work. if yer scared , send it to me ill wind yer **** for half the cost of him. do it.

Re: Best thing I have bought for my 50 yet.

Dude, I got the stator already wound and the regulator for less than you quoted me. Sorry, but I got the hookup from my bro at the local dealership. I will need your services for an elcheapo big bore though. Hopefully before spring. I was saving for it but I need a snowblower first. My new driveway is huge and I can't shovel it. Sometimes life friggin sucks.
