crf50 or SDG mini bike

sup y'all been trollin round mini bike forums... atfirst i had my sights set on a crf50 and just rockin that, but then i saw the SDG bike and was thinkin maybe i should just get that bike... it looks sweet and has things that i already want done to the bike and then some, but since they are the china made bikes i dunno if they will be quality compared to the honda... i also like the fact that they are manual transmission...money is also an issue though, broke *** college student! just want something reliable i can play with..

i don't plan on racing the bike around a dirt track because in the city there aren't any, i just wanna stunt around and maybe hit some trails/mountains once in a while.. would it be worth getting the SDG or should i just rock a fiddy... btw im 6'0 175lbs if that matters... cheers

Re: crf50 or SDG mini bike

Honda will definately have the edge over SDG in reliability. The SDG has some cool features, but the 50 is where its at!

Re: crf50 or SDG mini bike

the sdg looks like a sweet bike, but its too soon to know if they're really any good.

chances are, there will be bugs / flaws / weaknesses that are ironed out over the next couple of years... if sdg keep making them that is.. my point being, let someone else find the faults.

xr50s are tried, tested and proven - bulletproof. you'll pay $2300 for an SDG. I just picked up this little xr puppy for less than that, with less than 2hrs runtime, 88cc big bore, and just about every fast50 and 2 brothers upgrade you could imagine, including an extra, brand new rear shock (i-shock w/ reservoir). keep yer eye on e-bay and pick up a $4000 fiddy for half that amount

thanks man. it arrived at my work about 10:30am today.. I split off home at lunch time, couldn't wait to ride it. it rides even better than it looks - I can't believe how much low down torque and power throughout the whole range its got compared to my stock puppy (see pic).

i race downhill mountain bikes (up chairlifts, down skifields) - a bunch of my DH buddies all have fiddies, but this ones gonna be the sweetest peach in the pack

You're nuts the SDG is way better. The SDG has modified Honda motor in it, so the reliability will be the same. 107CC!! Manual clutch, hydraulic disc brakes!! Did I mention I have 2 SDG's brand new for sale?!!? I'm a Honda dealer as well, so don't think I'm just pushin what I got. Both are bad ***, but for the money you'd put in to the 50 to make it half of what the SDG already is would be a waste... :YEAH

you're a joke. i work parts at thompson's honda in terre haute. we just got 4 of those sdg's in, they are the biggest piece of crap ever. they are NOT a honda motor with mods like someone said, they are something completely different. right out of the crate they have a huge jetting problem, they are way too lean in the midrange. for 107cc's they have no power. my friend's 88cc big bore xr50 kills this thing on power. the clutch is garbage on it, the levers feel cheap, it's very unstable on hard pack surfaces, and the suspension needs work. You get what you pay for. i thought they were cool and i was going to buy one. i rode it around our track here and it's a piece of ****. also, since i work parts, i see this funny thing called availibility. we've had them for a month and i still yet have seen a parts catelouge for them and i can't order any parts for them....so if you break one, i have no idea how you are getting parts yet for them.

Re: crf50 or SDG mini bike

A bored and stroked motor will never have the reliabilty of the stock sizes. But a 50 bored up to 88 wont hurt because thats what the cylinder was designed to do.

The SDG is not a modified 50 motor. It has a manual clutch and 4speeds and looks like an XR70R motor.

I love my honda fiddys but i have to admit that what you get in the SDG is pretty bad ***. Looks like a pretty killer deal.

dude, bottom line, it's not even a honda....it's a cheap chinese knockoff....70, 100, 4000cc, it doesn't matter, it's cheaply made and iwll break. people think it's a honda that's bored, no, it's not even from the same ****ing continent as honda is made from.

and if you think the sdg is sweet, ride it. any of you 50 guys will know right away that it's not quality once you ride it. i loved it when i saw it, i took one lap around the parking lot and you can tell it's not quality parts. also, don't forget, we have yet to get the parts books for them, so we've had them for a month and a half now and still can't get parts for them.....too bad if soemthing breaks on it.

Re: crf50 or SDG mini bike

i got to ride the sdg today and hated every minute on it. it was nothing like my lil 50. i see 50's as fun lil bikes to ride and you have to work for what you can jump, stunt,or just crusie with the sucker, the sdg is like that lil rich kid on your little legae team with all the best stuff but sucked cuz they thought just because they had all the good ****, that they would be good. i love my honda

I don't know who your Geography teacher was, bro, but Japan and China both reside in the land known as Asia. But, I see your point anyway. Once someone buys one at my store, I'll be able to prep it and try it out.

Re: crf50 or SDG mini bike

I normally don't get on here but I don't like trash talking before someone really knows about what they are talking about. I work at Donnell's Motorcycles in Independence, MO and we have become a dealer of the SDG Super Mini and have sold all 6 that we got in (since then we have ordered 2 more crates). I was a proud recipient of one and couldn't be happier and more impressed. I've put that thing thru lots of abuse and stresses, more than most people probably will, and it has held up so far like my honda did last year. I've done full motos on it on big bike MX tracks, tapped it out through the streets, and jumped some big gaps on it and the bike is GREAT. I ride with Brian Smith (Brian127) and the Midwest Stunters guys quite a bit so if you know anything about them from this forum, then you know what type of abuse I've put it through so far. The only problems I've had are your NORMAL new bike problems: stretched chain and worn the grips out. I cased two gnarly doubles hard and bent the right side footpeg mount down but that bent back and have another coming already. The ONLY thing that Binder929rr is right about is the parts availability right now because right now they are only set-up for crate damaged parts. They are putting together a dealer packet with a parts list/prices and are sending it as soon as they are done. Otherwise, most of the Honda XR/CRF50 parts will mount right on and I'm sure you can definitely find a part that will work if you really need it. THESE THINGS ARE NOTHING LIKE THE X-TREMEs WITH QUALITY..... WAY BETTER!!!!! So go ahead and buy an SDG, it's the best bike for the money and you save at least a grand or two with the hop-ups you get..... :YEAH
