Question about z50's

I have the chance to buy a 1979 z50 for a pretty good price. But it needs fixing up, the frame is old and a bit rusted, the tires are cracked, and the transmission needs rebuilt as it rattles in third. I was wondering if its possible to swap this engine and tranny into a newer crf or xr frame once i'm done rebuilding it? I was hoping that I could find a cheap stock frame on ebay and convert it the new style? Is this possible, does it all bolt right up? What all can be used with the new frame? Will the forks work with the new frame?

Re: Question about z50's

The only thing that would be worth it is the motor, it bolts right up. It will be a reverse shift patern tranny

Re: Question about z50's

Is it a Z50R, cus I got 1 and they're pimp. That was the 1st year they came came out looking more like a motocross bike with the BMX type bars and plastic fenders. I would'nt put a newer (CDI) engine in it, just buy a whole new motor from Classic Honda ($600). Were you wanting to get a new frame like a xr or crf with the mono shock rear, or find a old stock 1? Mine starting to rust so I'm gonna tear it down and have it powder coated.

It you have any questions about the bike just PM me

Re: Question about z50's

Its a z50r. It has the adjustable bmx style stock bars on it. And it has the more motocross looking plastics. I just want a fiddy real bad. I was thinking I could buy this one and fix it up and if i wanted it to look more modern just swap the engine to a newer mono shock xr frame. But if I can get it at the right price i'll just fix it up and ride it as is for awhile.
