JB Welding the crankcase....

What's the story here....

I got the hole.

I got the JB Weld.

Oil's drained.

Do I just clean the area, and slap it on and wait a day?

Or do I have to actually take the crankcase cover off? If I take the cover off... do I have to get a new gasket?

Fackin' nicest day of the year, and I bust my **** an hour into the day...

Re: JB Welding the crankcase....

Which side is busted? The left side doesnt have a gasket but the right side does. I think gixxernick didnt take his cover off when he JB'd it and there was a chunk of metal left inside that messed his clutch up, so you outta take the cover off.

Re: JB Welding the crankcase....

It's the right side that's busted. And that's what I was worried about too... chunk o' metal gettin' inside. I guess I gotta yank it and just be careful with the gasket.

Wish me luck!

Re: JB Welding the crankcase....

I 've damaged more crank case covers than anyone. JB weld will hold as long as u clean the area u apply the JB weld too. DONT buy a NEW cover untill u get good at crashing or stunting. U'll just break it again. I even have the CHROMOLY foot peg mount and that **** still bends and allows the brake pedal to go right in to the case cover resulting in a hole or crack of some sort.
I just bought a new case cover and 2 days later boom gone. I havent falln in months and then bang went over with my foot on the front fender. Sucks. So know i have 2 case covers with JB weld on them !!

U might need to change the gasket if u have taken your case cover off more than 3 times. By my 6th time taken it off i started to leak.

Just my $0.02

We also Need a CUSTOM Frame brace to prevent this from happening again.

Re: JB Welding the crankcase....

Well... I JB Welded it. Waited a day, and put a second layer on it, because it kinda shifted when it dried.

I'll put it back together and ride it today.

But I also ordered a new one from the dealer, and bid on one from eBay.

So... hopefully I won't need them, but I'll have spares.

PS. I dig that Impreza. So much better looking than the recent US spec WRX's. Too bad about the powerplant though. Now you gotta get the 22B widebody fenders.

Re: JB Welding the crankcase....

the clutch cover expands and contracts when heated at different rates
than the jb weld ,it is a temp fix,not permanent, it will leak again
