Crazy Valve Float Problem!

Since I got my 88cc kit, I've had a bad valve float problem. The 1st step we took to cure it was to buy a rev box (takagawa), then a pipe (classic honda), then HD valve springs. After all that I still get bad floating in the high rpm range. I thought the springs would cure it definatly. The only thing I can think of now is just dropping a bunch of teeth in the back (I went up 1 in front) so I'm not hitting the high rpm range at full throttle.

I'm also thinking about getting a new head with the bigger valves and porting. But I was told I would need a whole new kit if I wanted that (BS!). I could prob. get away with a head, domed piston, and 20mm carb.. The funny thing about that is the super heads appear to be the same as a head off a 70. I noticed that the HD springs I bought were the same as the 1s in a old trail 70 head i have, maybe the valves too. If thats the case, I say f that and get a stock xr70 head (cus ct70 heads dont have bearing cams).

To help u guys out heres what i have as of now:
88cc takagawa kit with 18mm carb and touring? cam
takagawa rev box
HD valve springs
breather pipe for head
k&n filter
classic honda ultima pipe
+1 front stock rear

are you sure that the tolerance for the rocker arms is correct? you didn't mention that. they may have loosened up since the installation and need to be readjusted. and how can you tell if the valves are floating? (seriously cause i don't know). good luck - and yeah the xr70 head should fit on there no prob.

Opps I forgot, yeah I've checked there good.

And you can tell when the valves float when you run it wide open and the engine start popping and sort of stalling out each time it pops.

If you float the valve the piston usually hits the valves and bends them causing you to replace them.....

Did you take it apart to fully inspect for damage...in a bad case the piston can be damaged too.

valve float dont necessarally mean yer hittin the piston. and the problem yer having doesnt sound like valve float. sounds to me like yer runnin lean on the top end causing it to pop. valve floating isnt usually a pop. its more like the bike just falls on its face and levels off. try goin up in jet size. as far as the head goes... go for it. the race head is just like a 70 bearing head. they work sweet. especially with that pipe u got. that bike will scream.

Thanks for the input guys. Fab, sounds like u could be right. Next chance I get I'll play with the main jets. Never really though about it running lean cus since I had the kit on I always ran it a little rich. Some day I'll get a oil cooler then i can run it lean and mean and not worry about overheating

dude if you had the stock CDI on and it was doing this it definately isnt valve float. the stock rev limiter will kick in long before that.
