So i bought the 50 front and rear brake arms, put them on and for my handbrake to do anything at all i have to adjust it so the foot brake is dragging. Is there a certain way to put these on that i missed?? I tried all kinds of crap for almost an hour and couldn't figure it out, the front was a pain in the *** also but i got that to work ok...I never bought anything accept ryams parts, and i know they all work great so this has to be my **** up somewhere.....any advise?

Thats what i figured...im not retarded and i have been working on cars/bikes since i was ten. I guess i was expecting more from them than they actually do, with it being longer, causes more pull therefor needing more adjustment for the handbrake which causes the footbrake to drag. I just did the kitaco pads with it so im gunna let them wear down a little but i cant reall say that im too happy with them considering the cost

If you put new pads on at the same time that could be the problem

They were worth the money for the rear brake for sure if you ask me.. hand brake needs all the help you can get... I had my brakes so tight they dragged anyways... I Liked it as tight as possible for the hand brake...

Like i said though if they are new pads they have to be heated up then cooled then heated then cooled a few times before they are going to grab very good..

Re: 50 Stunt extended barke arms

I guess i should have rode the thing more to let it all break in and get used to it again, first real time riding it in the 3 months i owned it. I had my last 50 over a year ago and got used to my f4i and the hydraulic hand brake!

Re: 50 Stunt extended barke arms

too late for that!! But i just looked on the 50stunt website at all the pics of the different bikes....the footbrake is on the top hole and the handbrake is on the bottom. I'm gunna swap them tonight (cause mine are opposite) and if that works then im a total *** cause my buddy told me to try it and i was too lazy to swap them.

HAnd brake on top gives more leverage and works better ...

Ya but it makes sence with the handbrake on the bottom because you wouldent have to pull it as far to make it grab. But ya im not very happy with my hand brake setup either and i have all the 50stunt stuff and the kitaco pads. Im gonna try to switch them tonight.

Re: 50 Stunt extended barke arms

That is the biggest part, gotta get all that play out and doing that it pulls the arm and tightens the foot brake. I just put the kitaco pads on with the new arms, hopefully it works out tonight when i try it

To get the hand brake to work right you are going to have to have all the play out... You should feel it hitting the second you pull the leaver at all.. Why does it matter if they are rubbing a little? I was on and off the brake the hole time i was riding a little rub wont hurt anything...

Well i haven't switched mine yet but i would guess it would also get rid of this problem.
Another thing u can do is grind your pads down in spots so that they r making full contact all the way around. It helps them grab a little better..

Re: 50 Stunt extended barke arms

My pads are dragging to the point where i can't spin the wheel a full turm with it off the ground (by hand), and the lever still goes all the way to the grip. I did grind down the pads for that "easy brake mod" and I have everything set up exactly like it was before the new pads and arms, just seems like the extra length and curve in the arm is causing the issue.

Re: 50 Stunt extended barke arms

ok so i swapped them yesterday and rode it. It helped alot with adjustment but it is no where near locking up, i would expect it to drop the front end as soon as i hit it...no, it barely slows me down..WTF is going on with this ******* thing...

Re: 50 Stunt extended barke arms

i don't know what the problem is but i wrote ryan a e-mail when i first got my set up and asked if the handbrake goes on the top or bottem because i saw on his ste they are all on the bottem. he said they are all old pics and to put it up top. mine works great, locks the tire up to a skid anytime. did you make sure you marked the spot your stock levers were when you took them off and put the 50stunt ones back in the same spot?

Re: 50 Stunt extended barke arms

i have the 50stunt brake arms, mine skids all day with hb,i have my handbrake cable going to the top of the brake arm.it took ALOT of tweeking and adjusting and brake cleaner in the hub.i think mine works just as good as a disc brake right now,
u might wanna try loosening up the nuts on the inside of the break rods and then tightening your handbrake adjuster till it grabs good.. then just snug up your foot brake rod. i usually have to snug it up a little more and more as it wears in and seats itself everytime i ride.which is another reason i love this set up,the knobby adjusters that come with it can be tightened anywhere anytime with no tools..50stunt rocks
