petcock leaking

just noticed today when i turned the fuel on it started leaking. also been noticing air bubbles in the fuel line. could the bubbles be caused by the leak in the petcock? can i just bypass it or do i have to replace. could this also be the reason it has a low end studder or is that just because i need to tune the carb up a bit.

Re: petcock leaking

Clean the carb make sure you're float isn't stuck open. Mine went bad also so I just cut the line and inserted a in-line fuel switch. I didn't have much money to buy $40 stock one from the dealer...

Re: petcock leaking

I got mine at a lawnmower store down the street. Just leave you're petcock in there but, keep it in the on position and run the in-line.

Re: petcock leaking

its leaking while its in the on position wouldn't that defeat the purpose of running a new line? i'm confused could you explain a little better what you did?

Re: petcock leaking

when its in the on position it leaks out of the bottom of the petcock so i think i guess i'll have to look at it but i turned it a little more toward off and it stopped made me think it was the petcock i hope its not the tank dude said he just replaced it because the petcock was leaking

Re: petcock leaking

oh I see. I don't know if there is a gasket inbetween the petcock and the tank but, if there is that may be the issue?

Re: petcock leaking

U said it leaks when its in the on position, but it stops when its in the off position. This eliminates the "seal" from your problem. Although i dont recall a seal being on the petcock. But if there is, u can still say that it is not your problem. Simply because the off/on has nothing to do with that seal, because the seal does not go through the petcock itself. Your problem IMO, lies inside the petcock itself. Or possibly a small hole in one of the hoses. Which is why u said it stops when u turn it to the off position........What happens when u put it on RES?...=-)

Re: petcock leaking

it stopped when i slightly turned it to the the off position leaving it almost in the on position but angled slightly. i turned it on today and blew in the top of the tank to pressurize it and got nothign leaking but a whole bunch of fuel went thru the line into the carb so i'm really stumped. my shock comes today then maybe i'll ride it a bit in the snow and see if it does it again

Re: petcock leaking

well it started leakin again almost instantly and i noticed one of the screws on the front was loose so i trid tightening it and it was stripped. so i pulled it all apart today. there is a seal on the inside that was fine so i found a longer screw that fit the hole and futzed with it for a while put it back together and again it doesn't leak when pressurized we'll see when i get it all back together how it works out or i'm going to honda and getting a new one
