Clutch or no clutch?

on 50s is it good to have a clutch or an automatic transmision? lots of people ride the hondas and stunt them out but im like how do u do wheelies and **** on them if theres no like popping it up going from 1st to second or anything so i guess im asking cause i just bought a pit bike and im used to doing stunts with a clutch but all the 50 riders are sayin **** pit bikes get a crf and im like why is no clutch good so lemme know what u think

Re: Clutch or no clutch?

It's all about personal preference. I personally like not having a clutch cause I do alot of tight woods riding and trails that basically I have to stop constantly and pick the bike up over big rocks or walk it over them. It's alot easier for the type of riding I do and a manual clutch is really not necessary.

Re: Clutch or no clutch?

stuntin on a fiddy needs no clutch, just pull it up, if you want the clutch effect you can drop shifter down and let it up and this is like clutchin it up, but it doesn't feel like its good for the bike.

I am a newb so I pop it with my feet ...but I find that going into 2 gear while the rpm are high in 1 st ... gives the same effect...the front end just jumps up!

The first time I ever rode my fiddy I did this and looped. I'm thinking it was largely due to the 88 kit, but it still sucked.

Honestly, you don't need a clutch on a 50. You should be able to do just about anything you want using throttle control and weight transfer. That's not saying that if I had the extra $$ laying around I wouldn't buy a clutch, just to do 3rd gear coaster on it lol

Re: Clutch or no clutch?

my CRF has an 88kit and you don't even need to pull up on it. I would recommend someone spend money on the power rather than a clutch to clutch it up

QFT

If you buy a clutch to clutch it up, that is all you get out of it...if you soup it up, you get enough power you don't need to clutch it up AND you have more power on tap.

or you can lightly push on the shifter and it pulls the pressure of the clutch.... just dont push it to hard and put it in 2nd or youll mouse trap it and be over the handle bars before you can blink

Re: Clutch or no clutch?

I would have to agree all you really need is a 88cc bore kit there not that expensive and you dont have to pull back to do a wheelie. Based on expeirence though the first thing I would recommend buying is a stiffer spring for your stock shock or a new shock all together. Then get a handlebar kit and a big bore kit. Some people like to get the rear brake which isn't a bad idea if you have long legs but you don't need it.

Re: Clutch or no clutch?

my crf has stock engine, except I have rear pegs, street tires, hd rear shock coil, derlin front fork bushings and protaper big bar kit and I can wheelie all day in any gear when I am on the rear pegs.
no clutch needed on the little bikes just trottle control and body positioning.
rear pegs are a must!!!!!!!

Re: Clutch or no clutch?

I have a Z50 but used to have a XR50. Stock motors. Like Squid Fighter said, they have a clutch.

By preloading the gear lever slightly, up or down, it disengages the clutch. I usually do it up, then pop the throttle and let go of the gear lever, whallah, clutching wheelies...
I don't have to tug or pull or anything... The bike does all the work.

For the record, I too have flipped a few times doing the 1st to 2nd high revs change... Until I was told about the clutch. Never again...

bbr /tb are some good ones . rejet stock carb. or upgrade to a bigger carb. If you install it correctly & tune the carb ,you will not have any problems .
