50's are easy and fun to ride, and you can get the general idea of how to do stuff. plus, when you fall you wont get hurt as bad...

50's will still hurt you though

And..... The big one IMO.... You can get a 50 for around $600 easy.... Not that many other bikes you can get for that much that are worth a ****.. i started on a 2 stroke 125.. It does not matter what you start on at all really... But my thoughts on it were.. When i drop my dirtbike i get some dirt on the bars and learn a good lesson about why my *** just ate dirt... On the 636 i get some nice rash... and more then likely have to buy parts if its a big fall... You can learn the basics on a quad/dirtbike with out having to worry about ******* up your big bike..

Thats how i see it atleast..

yep, you can *** drag on a phifty and learn throttle control, then once comfortable put both legs on and learn back brake control and body langauge. drop your phifty = maybe a bent foot peg or broken lever. drop your big bike and pay up....

50's are good but try a 150, 80, 125 something with a clutch. clutchin up a wheely is much more vital then just pullin on the bars. They are still the funnest little bastards out there though

the honda xr/crf50 and xr/crf70 have a semi auto clutch . You dont have a clutch hand lever on the handlebar . You just shift with your foot .

Re: Question about a fitty....plz help.

Learning to clutch it up was never really a problem for me... I got used to that on the starting gate racing when i was younger... the only problem i have had was learning to be stable at lower speeds and learning the hand brake... And the 50 everything and more that i could have asked for that i got the basics down with it very easy and it just gives you the feel ... like D said 50 you don't have to use the clutch at all its simi auto.. pretty sure anything else will have a clutch If you have problems clutching it up.. i would get something with a clutch to help you learn thats not a $3k bike that will break when you drop it...

Re: Question about a fitty....plz help.

So if you have to learn all three (throttle control, rear brake, and clutchin) would u get a 50 or jump right up to 100 or somethin? Also i found another threat talking about modifications. Being an adult & about 185 lbs. do i need to modify it or can it be stunted stock?

I am 6'3 180 and i stunt my 50 with stock suspension Have big bars, 50stunt hand brake, 50 stunt extended brake arm, 50 stunt pegs and some street tires and it works fine for me .. I think 50 stunt is starting to make parts for the 150 now?? Not for sure though.. but i would just start on a 50 they are a blast anyways i ride them up and down the streets all the time cops never give me any **** and people just think its funny.

Re: Question about a fitty....plz help.

Thanks T/C. So y not a 70/80. I dont know but they seem too little and looks like i'll get tired/bored w/ it. I mean im completely new to the stunt scene and need to practice throttle, bp, rearbrake & clutchin. Am i underestimating it?

Re: Question about a fitty....plz help.

you can always hop them up to 88cc or 110cc with kits. i'm still really new to riding these things but it seems like modding it is half the fun.

Re: Question about a fitty....plz help.

You could get an 80 or something but i dont see the point... Clutching up a bike is not as big of a deal as everyone makes it... or it never was to me... My problem was always balance left to right and the 50 worked perfect for that... yes it changes when you go to a big bike but it gets you used to it and gives you an idea of what you need to do... You an go with a bigger bike but parts will be more, the bike will be more... And most of all they are going to be louder i like being able to ride the streets around my town and not be annoying so people dont mind it.. Everything you are asking is really up to you and what you want... If You want a clutch you will need to put a clutch kit on a 50 or buy a bigger bike... and really thats the only thing that you keep asking about that a 50 wont do stock...

Re: Question about a fitty....plz help.

ya there are clutch kits through 50stunt if you are worried about that. all the pro have a 50 and i have never met someone who has got board of their 50. there is always something more you can do to them and the parts are endless. as for your size, my cousin is 6'2 235 and has been riding fiddys for 2 years now and still get out every chance we get. 50 all week 600rr on the weekend!!

Re: Question about a fitty....plz help.

I'm 6 ft 215 lbs, Ive had an xr80 and hated it. Alot more got bent and broken. The xr50's on the other hand are damn near indestructable. I guess it's the compact size. Just beat the **** outta them, put'em up wet, and do it again tomorrow...again and again.

I ride all stock motor, big bars, 12 bar, hand brake. Thats it.

No need for bigger motor here, but I'm more about slow wheelie control than fast straight line flamers.
