50 tire mounting problem

I took my wheel up to cycle gear to get them to put a street tire on it but they kept busting/pinching tubes. Anyway i ended up buying the tire and a couple heavy duty tubes and i was going to try it myself.

I will try tommorow using a bicycle pump to air it up slowly instead of a compressor (maybe that was the problem , idk). I just thought i would try to get some other peoples' input for tips and to what may be causing the trouble.

They ruined 3 tubes trying.

***** easy just did my back on its harder with a new tire. ITs a 50 its liek changing a bike tube. If they are using flat tips instead of tire Irons thats probably the problem.

Re: 50 tire mounting problem

i take the valve in the valve stem out, slip one bead of the tire on the rim, slide the tube in, tighten the nut on the stem, slip the other bead of the tire on. When puttin the last bead on use your finger to push the tube down out of the way the slip the tire iron rite where u finger was. just dont push the tire iron in the tire far only like a 1/4 to 1/2 inch. haha its like wheelies it take practice! i busted like 8 tubes before i learned! Practice!

Yea, pretty much everything he said but I thought I'd add that It helps me alot to baby powder the tube and put a bit inside tire and on bead. Helps keep the tube straight and from twisting when aird up and helps bead slide onto rim.

My pirellies are tight and I feel like I'm gonna rip the bead but it just stretches. I use three tire tools and look like a monkey on the floor with a foot holding one tire tool down in place while my hands work the other two. Quite a sight I'm sure.

Warm the tire in the sun for like 10 mins first...when putting the tire on take small bites and be aware of how deep you're putting the screwdriver/tire iron in, if you're careful you shouldn't be touching the tube at all.

Re: 50 tire mounting problem

thanks for the replies everyone.

Yea they used tire irons at cycle gear and still couldn't do it. My buddy and I tried the next morning and just took our time using a ratchet extension and a screwdriver (only to pry the tire lip up enough the fit the extension in there). Anyway the extension obviously has a square smooth tip so there was less a chance of pinching/busting the tube. That's what was happening . The tools with the flat ends were breaking the tube.

But thirty minutes later and a whole bottle of dish soap i was rockin well balanced wheelies :D

another thing i would like to add. I bought some more tubes when i bought the tire from cycle gear and there were 2 different sizes that they gave me. The first tube was kind of midway around the wheel when putting the tire on so it was close to the lip that i was using the irons and screwdrivers on. The second slightly larger tube actually rested on the bottom of the tire far away from the part that had to be pryed onto the rim. Should i be using different size tubes for the bigger street tire? Sorry if i seem dumb about it. This is the first street tire swap i made much less tube tire swap.

Thanks

Re: 50 tire mounting problem

Ull get better at it and be able to switch tubes in 10 min by yourself. Allways use tire irons to chancy with screwdrivers, and just get a 10inch tube from a dealer. No bicycle tubes from walmart. dont go to low on psi though ull pop em doin circles. Any tube will work its just a 50! ur runnin a 2.50 or a 80/90 right???

Re: 50 tire mounting problem

I forgot the size tire. What is the stock dirt tire width? I want to say the street is at least 2.75 to 3.00 wide.
