Looking for good minibike to learn brake control.
I want to start learning brake control on a smaller bike. I have been looking at the XR 50s and I am wondering if that is neccessarily the best bike to learn brake control on. What a bout a bigger bike, like a TTR90 or somthing like that. If the 50 is good, then I'll get one of those. I want to transfer the skills learned to my gixxer so does size matter?
no doubt. I know its gonna be harder to wheelie. Theres no power to work with so you gotta be good! heh. My friend just got a new suzuki drz110 and that thing is pretty hard to wheelie. Not real hard, but harder than the geez.
It really doesn't matter when it comes to minibikes. I just got the xr50 because it's a honda, and a year ago, it really looked like the best choice. I haven't ridden one of the 110's yet, but I saw a klx and it looked alot like the xr as far as size-wise. But it's up to you and whatever makes your motor purr. Any small bike is going to be hard to wheelie when you're dealing with that short of a wheelbase. But if you can't wheelie the fiddy, you probably shouldn't be riding a wheelie on a big bike, it is a good learning tool.

I'm telling you, the best way to learn brake control is on a good sized 4-wheeler. Thats how we did it. You can put your mind on learning brake control without worrying about the side to side balance thing.

Can you do a stand up wheelie on a xr100 .. have you seen any one pull it off?
xr100's a great bike, I've got one of those too. You've got a clutch to work with, it's got a longer wheelbase than the 50, so wheelies are a lot more controlable. Yes, stand up wheelies can be done, and have been done for blocks.

Go with a CRF150 over the XR.. It's a bit bigger and has disk brakes up front

it's possible, but just a bit hard cuz of your positioning and everything... I rarely rarely do them

The CRF150 is HUGE! hehe. Its only 1/5th of an inch difference in seat height and ~3 inches difference in wheelbase than my gixxer. I can get ahold of an RM125, but its way to big IMO. I want something in between the fiddy and the crf150.

Z50
Try out a honda Z50. Those things are the sh*t for having fun wheelieing around on, and you can get a decent used one for around $500. a spine protector isn't a bad investment while learning brake control on those little bastards either!!!!!
I just started ****** with 2nd gear last night.. dont need to much brake in 2nd unless you get too high, and its easy to get up.. cruise along about a jogging speed and rip the bars and throttle the same time..
What about the XR80 or maybe even the XR70? The only reason I am concerned is cause I think my lanky *** will be too wadded up on a fiddy. But I dont want anything with over a 30 inch seat height.
