Non Stunt Rider...Need advice...

Hey All,

I know these forums are mostly for stunt riding enthusiasts but it seems you all have a lot of experience with the XR50 and I thought maybe you guys could offer some assistance / recommendations??

I was recently given an XR50 which runs decently, but has a bent frame. Was planing to fix it up and let my 5 yr. old twin boys ride it afterward.

My questions is, would an after market frame with a 2" stretch add too much length for a child to be able to ride it comfortably?

Being after market, is the stock ride height maintained or is it all jacked up and sitting taller with the new frame?

Does everything bolt on pretty easily or are there places I may have to tweak in order to bolt up the parts properly?

Also, any suggestions on a cheap stock size replacement frame (does an after market regular size one even exist..)? Looking for any help on where to buy parts from, brand names to look for etc.

If anyone has links I might find useful regarding XR50 repair not geared exclusively towards stunt and enthusiast riders, I would be greatful as well.

Thanks All in advance!

Re: Non Stunt Rider...Need advice...

The closest to a stock frame that I have seen are the classic Honda frames, they are 1 in longer and 1 in taller, which isn't to different, they have those on power sports

Re: Non Stunt Rider...Need advice...

OMG! $665...for a frame alone and sub frame...
wow...that's more than the bike is worth.

I maybe should have explained myself better in original post....I want CHEAP!

The bike was free, I have bought a $40 handle bar one-off switch so far...nothing else and if a frame is gonna cost me a lot of money, I'll give the bike back and go get a new one (or 2) for 1k each.

I am fixing this up in hopes my boys will be into it, if they are interested and want to continue riding, I may get the new bike next year or when they grow out of the 50.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the responses and suggestions, I should have explained myself better though. Looking for a cheap fix.

Thanks Fellas!

Re: Non Stunt Rider...Need advice...

Hey, no problem. I guess I thought oyu meant more of a restoration. I would say if you are looking for cheap and stock parts that ebay is your best bet. Most sites that sell parts are only aftermarket upgrades rather than stock replacements.
However make sure that if you are buying a frame it is a crf50 or XR50 frame, that frame is an SDG frame which is it's own brand of bike and I think that the dynamics are a little different. I don't think all your honda parts will bolt up right onto that frame.

Re: Non Stunt Rider...Need advice...

Well...another day or so and hopefully I win have the winning bid on the stock frame. I already found several training wheel sets on ebay...they are 160 at my local honda dealeer/stealer so ebay it's gonna be.

I am gonna need a set of plastics and a stock or nearly stock rear shock.

Any suggestions about brands? I will shop the links you guys listed above, but I suspect there are several brands so suggestions welcomed.

Thanks again!

Finding a stock rear shock on here should be no problem since most people change them out right away for one that will support an adult.

Re: Non Stunt Rider...Need advice...

hey fellas...thanks for responses.

I had to pay close to $100 for stock frame, $60 for training wheels and $30 for a stock shock...sorry ERdoc, I won the bid before I saw you post man. I am starting to wish that I had gone ahead and bought an after market bike but I wasn't sure about reliability, replacement parts etc and most of these after market bikes seems to be geared towards adults and not kids.

My hope was that after fixing up the xr50, teaching my kids to ride and seeing if they like the sport, I could sell the honda and add the funds to discount the purchase of 2 new pw80's or something.

What do you guys think of the after market bikes? Am I being foolish to think sticking with honda and yamaha factory stuff is a waste of $$ ?

Thanks again for ideas and responses guys, I really appreciate it.

Re: Non Stunt Rider...Need advice...

your honda will last till your kids are getting their drivers licenses. i've owned a knock off in the past and although some honda stuff fits, you often have to chase down what year honda that part was copied from to get the right replacement. pistons/cams and most other motor parts don't interchange on most knock offs (jincheng 05 models use pre 81 honda specs) so you just have to know what YOU NEED before you order as most places won't know unlessthey deal in the type of motor you have(wich leads to hours of searching the net for info), and honda has dealer everywhere.

Having a honda, you can't go wrong, the parts will ALWAYS be available and the bike will hold value 1000 times better than a knock off. You did the right thing fixing up the honda bike

Here is another link .

When i ordered a set they also had a deal if you ordered more than $99.95 you would get free shipping .

Since the plastics are exactly $99.95 you have to ask them to give you the free shipping .
