spring or shock?

my '05 50 is stock with the exception of some rear pegs i rigged up; should i buy springs for the forks and shock, or is it smarter to buy the expensive *** shock?
the bottoming out is getting rediculous, so i need to know what to save my pennies for...

yah yah, i know i need some bars first...

Re: spring or shock?

i just installed my shock w/ heavy duty spring tonight....big difference in the size of the springs...this one BARELY fits through the subframe it's so fat....i got it off ebay allready together, but noticed it's alot thicker of a shock also, so it's not a stock shock, but isn't marked any name brand....rode with it on the fiddy, and it's a big difference in siting on the bike and riding/wheelieing i HIGHLY reccomend a spring for your fiddy...stock shocks are made for 8 yr olds

Re: spring or shock?

I spent around $90 shipped or so, on front and rear applied racing springs. They raise the front end 1 1/4" and give the front more travel.

They are for 160-190 pounds riders, im 145. My rear shock almost bottomed out before just sitting on the bike.. I think it makes wheelies and stoppies easier since it dosen't bottom out. Also my stock forks bump stops were torn all to hell from 4 months of riding.

But i'd say at least get ebay ones if you dont wanna spend that much.. Anything has to be better then stock

Re: spring or shock?

dude for sure go with the shock and springs i blew up my old shock and road it with a spring thinkin it might be a bit better it sucked. if ur jumpin anyhtgin go with the shock its amazing. u bottom out sometimes but it dont hurt. and as far as the fork springs go buy soem stiff ones i weigh 180 lbs and i have only bottomed out a few times and thats when i loop off the side of a jump on accident (or on purpose). so id for sure go with shock and springs. and get bars its the best mod u can make.

Re: spring or shock?

If your rear stock shock is blown, then putting a Heavy Duty spring on it will do you no good.

If it is ok - then a HD will help. For stunting.

If you are jumping or doing a combo of stunting and jumping, go with a Non Res Ishock & then use the 1" longer HD fork w.HD springs and bushings (Classic Honda and Sik50 sell a kit).

Good luck with what ever choice you decide on.

Re: spring or shock?

I've had the 50 for around 7 months and it's been beat to ****--stunting, jumping, flipping down the road, etc. The forks are starting to stick a little and the rear shock, i have a feeling, is fuked; i'll probably just buy the shock and stiff fork springs and be done with it. (damn i'm so cheap though)

about how much does a kit run (fork springs, shock, whatever...)?

Depends on if you order it over the net or at a local shop.

Email Ron at xtremeracing50s.com (email addy on the site) and this might help you get an idea.

Why the Non Res I shock, and not a res I shock?

Re: spring or shock?

just get the springs and a good set of bushings...probably run you like $100 if you buy local, otherwise you have to pay for shipping too. My Applied Racing springs work fine and hold up to 190lbs i think, not sure, but they're holding me fine at 150lbs.

just because you can save a few nickels, the res is good for the long run cause it can be rebuilt.
