Formal Introduction - or 'sup y'all

It was cool meeting people last night @ Jax and I figured I'd say hi before Sha Nay Nay called me out.

A little background:
I'm John, I've been ridin for around 13 years off and on, never tried stuntin 'cause I have mainly ridden vintage bikes. I live in Palm Beach Gardens. I'm currently scrounging to buy another bike (and a house) so I can give the car to the wife. Blah Blah Blah...

I'm a computer guy but I prefer working on mechanical stuff. If anyone knows anything about '70's motorcycle electrics let me know. Trying to get both of my current bikes running.

I read that you got the steering stem bearings straight. That's cool, I figured it wouldn't be that tough.

I'll be hangin out on the board alot. I've got a bunch of crap to unload on ebay so I can get started on getting a real bike. Maybe I'll get lucky and come across a deal soon.

Re: Formal Introduction - or 'sup y'all

So.... Following Sha Nay Nay's advice I went to the local dealer for some abuse. Bad Move

Memorial week-end is not the week-end to try to look at a bike. Sat on a Honda and a Kawasaki both 1000's 'cause I'm tall and I'd rather have a liter bike. Now it's time to look at the Suzuki, the R-1 and for fun a Triumph Speed Triple or Speed 4.

The "salseman" tried the "it's a Honda what could be better" line then he went with the Kawasaki is the fastest" line and when that didn't work he didn't know what to say so he walked off. (better for me anyway) Time for some real research now. I hear the Kaw is brutally fast and light  but I dunno, I may end up with a used bike first. Hmmmm decisions. At least I knwo I can't afford a Ducati so that narrows it up a bit. I'm always willing to hear opinions. I.E. Would I regret a 600 being 6'2"? I'd hate to pass up a 600 based on 5yr old assumptions.

Well enough rambling... L8

I have to wait a little bit more before making any moves. I'm in the process of getting a mortgage. I'll get in touch with you as soon as I get the ok to spend $$ maybe it'll be around. I'm trying not to shoot myself in the foot on this deal.

Re: Formal Introduction - or 'sup y'all

If your BIG / TALL, the 1000 will most likely fit'ya better..

As far as which is fastest and crap like that ... Honestly ... It really does not matter! They are all 10 second 1/4 mile bikes.. If one does a 10.2 and the other is 10.6, do you think you would really notice? Nah.. Not really..

Trust me, you will never use the FULL potential of any of the current liter class bikes on or off the track.. Period.. Unless your last name is Yates or Maladin or something along those lines..

My suggestion to you would be to pick the bike that is the MOST COMFORTABLE too you when your on it! The rest is just semantics.

COMFORT = SPEED / FUN

IMHO

Welcome aboard beyondhelp...

I know what you mean about those salespeeps... When I went to buy my bike about a year and a half ago, I was still going through crap even with my uncle working at the bike shop.

I personally like the Honda 1000rr or the R1. My bf has the 01 R1... Rode it a few times, and now I want one. The R1 is pretty lite, at least for me it was. If I decide to move up on the cc's, I would go for either one of these.

Good luck shopping ... and definitely do your research...When I went to get my bike, especially being a female, you don't want to be taken advantage of...
