Motorcycle theft ring in Orlando

High-End Motorcycles Vanishing In Orange County

POSTED: 11:23 pm EST November 9, 2005
UPDATED: 9:29 am EST November 10, 2005

Police in Orlando, Fla., are investigating what appears to be a major theft ring targeting high-end sport motorcycles, according to a Local 6 News report.

Investigators said 17 motorcycles have been stolen this month. Some of the bikes may have been driven away in trailers since they had heavy-duty locks on them, Local 6 News reporter Erik von Ancken said.

"We don't know the motivation and why," Orlando Police Sgt. Barbara Jones said. "Besides the fact that they are stealing them, what are they doing with them? We don't know if it is one person or a group."

MetroWest resident Darnell Pickett said he parked his new Honda motorcycle outside his home and it was stolen as he slept.

"It just hit me," Pickett said. "I walked outside and I had to walk inside the house a few times before it hit me.

Pickett had no insurance so he will continue to make payments on the stolen bike.

"You got people working so hard to get it and you got people working hard to take it," Pickett said.

Police are offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in the case.

If you have any information concerning this crime, you are urged to call Crimeline at (800) 423-TIPS.

That's the great thing about having a crunchy bike. Nobody wants to steal it.
