Video editing software questions

What do you guys use for video editing?
Do you like it?
Is it easy to use?
Would it be easy to learn on for a beginner editor?
Pros/Cons?
Any specific features I should look for in the software I purchase??

Money isn't an issue so don't leave out the expensive ones in your lists. Any info would be great thanks,
Ben

ya vegas seems to be the norm for making videos on here. its pretty simple to learn and u can do some tight stuff with it.

adobe premier is similar, but a little more confusing for a beginner in my opinion.
if u have a mac u can get final cut pro but you can't really dl that free from anywhere and its about 1000 bux so i'd say stick with vegas for now haha. PM if u want a link to DL vegas vid 4.0 for free, i think you can get it from kazaa as well.

If you are looking to go the Final Cut Pro/Premeire route you may want to look into Avid Xrpess also. I think they have a free lite version.

FCP is strictly mac where as the others are PC. Premeire is both.

CYCLEDREAMS MAG. (Directors Cuts)

YO...Everyone here may want to read my post titled (CYCLEDREAMS MAG. (Directors Cuts). I want to publish some of your comments in the magazine.

OK.....heres my little input.

Pinnacle 7 is what I used to make the Ronin VHS, and it is a great beginners product for only like $100, now maybe $50 with version 8 being out. I don't like version 8 really. But there products are easy to use.

Vegas 4.0 (now owned by Sony ) is really a great product, but you will have to get to know it. Beginners like myself may find it very involved, but never the less I think I put together a hot DVD with it. Just released the Ronin DVD. Get a copy at (Impact, Xfactor, or Motovideo) plus Ronin web.

(I am no body to all these p/c nuts on here, but if anyone wants my help feel free to email me. I also manufactor dvd/vhs....Roninracer Productions if you need a project run.. holla)

Pinnacle and/or Dell Movie Creator. Pinnacle is much nicer but Dell has a cool feature where you tell it the clips you want to use and the music and it automatically creates a movie in tempo with the music by taking bits and pieces of all the clips and mixing them.

As you can see....it all just depends on how deep you want to go. If you ust want something that is easy to use and will allow you to put a video together you can go with Vegas. I you want to get more into it you can look at Premeire, Avid Xpress, or Final Cut Pro. If you go the MAC route I would say go with Final Cut Pro. It is made for the MAC by MAC and is rock solid from what I have seen and heard. As far as learning just do a search for tutorials for any of the above packages and you will have plenty to learn from.

If you want to get into all the really cool compositing stuff After Effects (Adobe), Combustion, Digital Fusion , Shake (MAC) should do the trick. Any one of those packages kicks ***.

Vegas Video is very nice. Its one of the better ones out there for the PC. Its got alot of features that Premiere doesn't.

But if you want to get sick then just go out and get a Silicon Graphics workstation.

Hell yeah!!! Those things are pimp. I used one at work for a while and it was smooth. Didn't do video editing on it though we had for CAD/CAM station. Those workstations are strictly for the pros. I think the cheapest station you can get cost something like $6K.
