Question Sgt. Lottery Winner

I was watching the news today and heard about that Sgt in the Army who won the lottery. He won something like 33 million dollars. I'm happy for him that he won, but he said on the news "I hope to get a discharge soon from the Army somehow so that I can start a new life." ....... Does this bother anyone but me? I mean, I know for a FACT he probably didn't join the Army in the first place for the $$ (and if he did he was sadly misguided)...so what is the change now?...What do other people think?

Hell I would do the samething, think about it. I wouldn't want to be working my *** of on helicopters if I didn't have to. I would finish my enlistment though.

I would finish my enlistment but in all honesty it would take a really strong person to go to work like we do for 20 grand a year when you have 33 mil. Congrats to the man. Hopefully he is smart enough to keep it.

**** that, if I won 33 mill i would be out in a sec plus the military usually discharges people if something like that happens. I think they discharge you on grounds of radical change of lifestyle i think if not You could always buy out the rest of your contract.

I think I'd finish my enlistment. I just think that ducking out of your contract for the lottery is kind of a crappy thing to do... who knows.. He's probably gonna be a moron like all the rest of the winners and spend all that cash within like, 5 yrs and have nothing to show for it. My friend from HS, her family won the lottery like 8 yrs ago now, all they have to show for it are BMW's and a house on the lake... he is working again b/c they pissed away all that cash.

I would want to stay, but the military discharges you because of conflict of interest. if you had that much money the military looks at you as a liability. you would not have to listen to anyone, or really want to do anything. it is easier to push you out, to keep you from getting into trouble down the road.

It hasnt snowed in about a week. Today it was about 50's...sunny...it was ok outside actually. Of course, I had to work. Its a 50/50 chance in December. My sister got married in Dec of 4 yrs ago and it was 65. Dont like the weather in Michigan? Wait 5 min and it'll change....I mean, if you're from Michigan you know what I'm talkin about. I just got back from Cali (born and raised there) it was 105!

The weather does suck sometimes but I would rather live on the lake rather then the ocean. Yeah, in cali there is a year round riding season, but how long is the snowmobile season? I like having different weather. Everyday being the same just gets old. Megan, your info say's that you are leaving in January. How did you decide on #1 Barrack Ho? It's just wondering.

With the exception of Megan, you people disgust me. If (god forbid, and I mean it) I win the lottery, the last thing I would do is try to abandon my country for the quick cash. I look at my enlistment as a marriage, for better or worse. I'm going to stick out my 5 years whether I'm having the best or worst times of my life, that's the power of a signature my friends. That Staff Sergeant should have thought his contract out a little better before he signed it. Go ahead and let them try to discharge me, I'll give the money to my parents until I receive an honorable discharge, and if not then I'll fight it tooth and nail. Some people really just don't take the defense of their country seriously enough, and especially in these trying times, sad.

Ps. Here are the actual facts: Army Staff Sergeant, $150 Million Prize, lump sum of $88.9 before taxes.

They chose to receive a lump-sum payment of $88.9 million and now plan to ask the Army for releases.
Tirrell Moore, 30, is a chemical decontamination specialist with the 520th Maintenance Company. His wife has served as a helicopter electronic technician with C Company, 52nd Aviation Regiment. They are both staff sergeants.
"It makes no sense to stay in the Army," Tirrell Moore said Thursday. "I have loved it. I'm just going to relax and get my head together."

Wow CBR I totally respect you. I view my future time in as a wonderful opportunity that I cant wait to experience. I know everyone sits there and will say "yeah wait till u get in, blah blah" well you know, your time in the military all depends on your attitude of enlistment. I sure as hell didnt join the Army b/c of the money, I joined it b/c personally I believe it is a persons DUTY. Its my duty, my right as an American, and Im proud of it. But hey, thats just me, to each their own.
Brandon: I leave for basic training on 21 Jan 03. I ship to Fort Leanord Wood then to AIT at Ft Sam Houston. I work at Selfride ANGB currently as a GS employee. I am a trainer in the gym on abse and a lifeguard during the summer. In being a trainer I meet and hang out with military men, alot. I get along better with guys than girls. Every single time I attempt to go out with them as a group its usually me and 20 guys. Its a joke to me and the guys b/c all the local females who really ARE barrack rats view me as "compitition" when I really am just platonic with every single one of the guys who walks thru the doors of my gym. So..long story, thats how I got my nickname .. Want me to visit your barrack? lol...j/k...

"I would finish my enlistment but in all honesty it would take a really strong person to go to work like we do for 20 grand a year when you have 33 mil. Congrats to the man. Hopefully he is smart enough to keep it." How does that disgust you? I said that I would finish my contract and that it would take a very strong person to do that. Where the **** do you get off saying we disgust you. Oh yeah, and stick out your 5 years? Your my ****ing hero. I haven't stuck out a minute of my time in. I ****ing loved every minute of it. Second who the **** are you to judge what someone says they think they would do. You know as well as anyone should that people never know what they are going to do until they are given the chance. The worlds biggest **** talkers are often the ones who once confronted are the ones who cowar into a corner. So next time before you take your happy *** and start telling people how they disgust you, you might want to get to know a little bit about the people you are talking too..............................

: Now have another bro.

Megan, Hell yes I would! j/k It would be a little hard for you though I live in Iwakuni Japan. I am headed home to Grand Haven in early december. Your Avatar is still I just couldn't figure out how you already knew what a barracks ho was. Trainer in the gym? You need to get some pics in your photo gallery.
