I still wonder that until this day. Honestly? When I was a kid I saw TOP GUN and wanted to do the samething. But I didn't want to be stuck on a ship, so I went to the AF. Still not flying but it ain't that bad.

It was an easy way to get a job, but I really didn't think it would last this long.

I dunno why I joined either... now I wish I joined the AF instead of the Navy though. I like working on the aircraft, but not being stuck on a boat...

Good question that gets asked all the time, I joined because I'm a natural ground pounder. I like hard work, guns and fighting.
I joined to goto war and ended up stuck with the Rear D for a few months untill the boys got back but even since than nothing has changed, I'm a 21b (previously 12b) combat engineer, I thought I was gonna blow **** up but instead I learned that I just clean up oil spills all day, mow grass and drive a 113.
Gotta love the fine print.
Seriously though I would have rather been put in a light unit, I'm not made to sit around and do nothing, I gotta work.

hey, I just joined the Navy and am in the DEP program, because I need a kick in the *** to straigten me out, I want to see the world, free college, and to serve and protect my country.

BTW, any suggestions, comments, words of wisdom?? and also, what's the rules for having a bike on base??

thanks!!

#1) I joined for all the wrong reasons (school, family, and to get out of my parents house), but I am reenlisting next month for the right reason though (I LOVE THIS COUNTRY)!!!!!!!!!!!!

#2) Frogger....all I can say is GOODLUCK......its all mental man.....they want to train you and erase everything you have ever learned to be true about civilian life and teach you the military in a few short weeks......so take as much as you can out of basic and your schooling, but remember dont change yourself, be who you are and dont be a robot like I see in ALOT of my new guys coming in.......

#3) Bike on base.....I dont know if its the DOD who regulates the rules or if it is branch or what so I dont know how it is in the Navy sorry, CONGRATS, and I hope you get everything you want out of it......whatever it may be.......

I just joined and am DEP in the US Army. I leave for Ft Leanord Wood January 21st. I joined b/c it is one thing to sit and talk about being patriotic, but it is another thing to actually go out there and do it! College $$ is a plus, but I mean, is there anything better than to look someone in the eye and say that you gave up alot to serve your country? I can't wait till Basic !

Joining th AF was what I always wanted to do. Wanted to go fly and am doing it now, even though I am enlisted. Flying helos is as much fun as riding.
