Damn IEDs

Hey guys, anyone else hit an IED? My vehicle hit one a week ago and thank god for the M1114. I was the gunner and the blast blew me into the vehicle. I had a tiny piece of shrapnel in my arm that I didn't notice till a few days after. Anyway I lost some hearing in the right ear and get a buzzing in my ear hen people talk or noise is loud. Got it all medically documented and will get an audoiology test once i demob. I also had some nicks in my kevlar cover where the shapnel hit but I was perfectly ok. The turret shield took a heck of a blast and save me from some serious damage. Anyway just wondered if anyone else has had one of these go off on thier vehicle. All I saw was an intense flash and then everything went silent. Didn't even hear the thing go off. It was crazy, but thank god no one was seriously hurt, cuz i know it could have been a lot worse. Anyway stay safe guys. I should be home and back on the bike in feb, weather permitting of course. Laterz :YEAH

Re: Damn IEDs

Had an IED explode next to the vehicle in front of me. It's a good thing I was in the ASV, gotta love the armor, but the gunner of the HMMWV in front of me wasn't so lucky... I think he died later in the Heli-Vac.

Re: Damn IEDs

Can't say I've had it that bad. On patrol in Kosovo we ran over a mine. Farmers find them in thier fields and put them on the roads for us to "take". Not sure why... but it happened twice. Nobody got hurt from any though. Messed up the humvee but thats about it. We had more problems with people taking the bridge supports out to use as scafolding to build thier houses! Drove across the bitch and BAM nice bumpy ride 20 feet into a ravine. driver broke his nose I was in the back seat and got tossed up the middle and slammed into the radio, so on and so forth. I'm not lookin foreward to the **** I'm gonna be doin in iraq. I'm the crew serve weapons specialist for my squad. So more than likely I'll be pokin my head out the hole. Glad to hear you didn't get hurt man. Stay safe. See you in January maybe.

Re: Damn IEDs

I can say I am lucky that a IED hit dead on, but I have had them go off in front and back of us. Oh and AT mines, I have had some good incounters with them. But the thing that sucks is the VBIED's . Our convoys come across IED's, SMALL ARMS FIRE and AT MINES 85% of the time we go out. There is nothing you can do about IED's unless you spot them before they go off. If you are up in the turit, you have a lot of protection now then the first time I was over here. Hell I even have pics and vids of AT mines that we hit and IED's going off in front of us.

Re: Damn IEDs

9 IED's to date have hit my M1114, well that's a lie, 7 hit my first M1114, and 2 the new truck :

I have 78% hearing loss (60-70db from 500hz+) in my left ear. Gotta love it!!

16+ wakeup!
