Helmet Laws.... What do people think?

Basically, I wear a helmet at all times because I'm smart. I need my head and some old lady isn't going to take it from me.

I think Laws have no right to force idiots to wear helmets. This is American and we have the right to make the choice. You can't compare the helmet law to speed limit laws either. Speed limits are enforced to protect the safety of OTHERS. If you speed and loose control, your actions CAN effect others. Now, if you're not wearing a helmet and you are involved in an accident, the percussions of you not wearing a helmet has no bearing anyone else but yourself. That is the decision YOU made and it doesn't effect anyone but you.

Here is another thing to think about..... Who here wears their seat belt at all times when in a car? All the sudden the choice for wearing a helmet doesn't seem so out of the question. If we choose to be idiots and except the consequence (without effecting anyone else) then we should have the right to make the decision. Laws are established to protect YOU from OTHERS.... not YOU from yourself.

My $.02

Lata,
Bri

What do you think?

Also, I thought I just heard that Mass Government is passing a law which allows anyone over the age of 21 to have the choice of helmet law. I heard this new law has been voted on and passed through like 3 channels already. Now it needs to be passed through like 1 more channel to become a 100% legit law. I dunno... just what I heard.

Anyone else hear about this?

You choice. Wether it be a helmet or seat belt. It does not make sense that they enforce these thing on you. Wow what a free nation we live in. I am 100% against government and poltics.
Laws are made to benfit the person who introduced the law and not for our people. How many people have received kick backs on laws the introduced. Scandles!!!

Let those who ride decide. I wear my helmet all the time, but I used to almost never wear it(teach will vouch for that). Grant it, there are still occasions when I probably wouldn't wear it. Like last night when I rode 2 streets over to grab a sandwich, or little stuff like that. Or maybe I'll just take the 50 at those times, who knows. If this law is actually passing great. I also think the 21 thing is a great idea.

I was born and raised in NH. LIVE FREE OR DIE brotha!!!

Let those who ride decide.

I wear my helmet 98% of the time. Let's hope that 2% never catches up to me but hey that's my choice.

I'm pro choice.

My opinion.............KB

I am pro choice also. I oppose any law that tries to tell people how to live thier lives. (i.e. - seatbelt laws, smoking bans)
Sometimes I wear my helmet, sometimes I don't. Depends on how much I am loving life on a certain day. I just like the fact that I can choose. And if I'm just taking a quick rip on a hot summer day through town, I don't have to sweat my ***** off at stoplights, as I did when I lived in Taxachusetts.
And if I'm just going a couple miles down the street to the local bar to get shitty, I don't want to have to worry about carrying my helmet with me. (that's a joke people)

But I don't know about this whole "Eff the government" movement.
A lot of people I know depend on the government for their paychecks.

I do like all these catchy rhymes though:

~You ride, You decide!
~I have a voice, Give me the choice!
~Should I wear a bucket, or just say fucck it?!

Damn, Brian has some deep thoughts today, nice! Here in FL, its the over 21 thing, its your choice. I personally see people w/o helmets riding around here, and I just dont understand it. There is almost a slim to none chance od living if you hit your head.

I agree with you ride you decide. I always wear my helmet unless of course I'm in NH. But it would be nice to have the decision on hot humid days not to wear one.

Think for yourself...... Question Authority

Think of this. Bri you say not wearing a helmet only affects you (the rider). I disagree, EXA: you are driving without a helmet cuz you have freedom to decide how you ride. Now, lets say you ride like a dick...or not even. You get in an accident. You hit a car or you get hit by a car. It doesnt matter. Becuase you have no helmet you die. Now the driver faces charges of vehicle homicide cuz of your choices and actions. It does and can affect more than your self. To say it will only have a bearing on yourself is absurd! Drive without I dont care. Crash, then you crash. But when involved with another vehicle you take the risk of involving the law to put someone else in jail, and or make them have severe mental anguish for severely hurting you or worse. Just my two cents. Do what ya want who am I to say abide by the laws? I am just saying it involves more than just yourself. Drive safe YEAH GUYS

So what you're saying is, I must wear a helmet to PROTECT YOU from being possibly charged with vehicular homicide if you hit me? What happened to, "You're responsible for your own actions"? Helmet or no helmet, if it's your fault for hitting me.... IT'S YOUR FAULT!!

Now, if I cause the accident and die (b/c I wasn't wearing a helmet) then how can you be charged with vehicular homicide? I'm not about to be forced into wearing a helmet to protect someone else from the law. You break the traffic laws and cost me my life, helmet or no helmet, you deserve vehicular homicide.

Lata,
Bri

I dunno.... I guess I can see where you're going with this but it all seems very irresponsible. Almost like we need to babysit ourselves here. I just don't think I should be forced into wearing a helmet so if someone breaks the law, I soften his/her reprecussions. In these cases, laws are established to protect peoples safety... not to protect them from other laws.

The head is just a small portion of a very vulnerable rider. If you were to take helmet laws to their logical conclusion, you would need to wear a full body helmet, or maybe, not be able to ride at all. Take a good hit in the chest, or neck, and your done. How does a helmet help that? In a colision with a car, telephone pole, a wall, or anything else, your just as likely to have major contact with the body, as you are with your head.
I know people who have suffered life ending injuries while wearing a helmet, and I'm sure alot of you do too.

i think the laws protect those people who wouldnt wear a helmet
most the people i see with there helmets always off
drive like nuts
so the law protects them
if there was no law all the nebies would be rolling around on there bikes with no helmets trying to learn wheelies and hurting themselves
i say this cause a kid i used to ride with was this way
now most the riders i ride with now including myself no when to put the helmet on and when to take it off
till everyone can make the right judgement
instead of wanting to roll around beantown with no helmet so the chicks can see there face
i think the law dont hurt
i always wear mine so the law dont bother me
all it does is protect me when i feal reckless and want to take it off
just my 2 cents

I think the one person this law tries to protect is the one person who has enough political influence to get laws like this passed... The Insurance Companies, plain and simple.

A few months ago a bill almost passed allowing police to pull you over solely for not wearing your seat belt, who wanted this, The insurance companies... Why? because it would make the ticket for not wearing your belt go from a non-moving violation type( i.e. traffic ticket type) to a moving violation where they could add surcharge points and raise your rates.

Alot of the laws passed to "protect you" are also to proctect someone else, big business. But, either way 95% of the time its stupid not to wear one. That other 5% is nice though

you cant compare seatbelts and helmets... thats just assanine...
not wearing a helmet can, will and has had preformance altering affects on anyone who chooses to do so... to say otherwise is ignorant, and major denial.
