Sigs are nice pieces no doubt, but they cost a fortune. I have looked at and shot a P226 to check it out as a carry piece. Do you have/ plan on getting a CCW?

Sawed off? 1 or 2 shots isn't the way to go. If you are talking about a pistol grip mossberg 500 or 590 or the remington equivelent, they have their pros and cons. You definately still have to aim them especially at close range when the spread pattern of buckshot isn't fully developed. You might as well be shooting slugs. Are you looking for a handgun to carry or just to have?

Please don't get a 9mm. Get a .40 or a .45. And you may want to look at a larger pistol is you are just going to target shoot/ home defense.

Thank you for the big lebowski reference :YEAH

No meaning Lacey and I. I think the 45 is too much for her. The 40 with 3 or 4 inch barrel would be good for her to blow a hole in someone that tries to enter our domicile when I am on a trip.

Youtube is blocked at work. A 9mm is a marginal defensive round. It's great for shooting paper, but so is a .22

The heaviest .45 that fits her hand would be a good choice. Or get her her own S&W .38+P Revolver. Completely idiot proof. Pull the trigger, it goes bang.

wat good is a bigger round (.40 - .45) a miss is a miss, and a hole is a hole??? ill be more acurate with a 9 and put more smaller holes in the person?? 1 in the head and it will kill.......yes the 45 is a bigger hole but not a huge difference......were not comparing it to a .50 eighther

either a 40 or a 45 is good. A hole isn't a hole and here is why:
To stop an attacker you either have to cause them to retreat or cause them to lose the ability to attack (make them pass out)
If they are going to retreat once you fire it probably doesn't even matter if you hit them. You shoot they run.

Now if you have to make them pass out to stop them there is two ways of doing it.

First is severing/ destroying the central nervous system (spine/brain shot) is really a tough shot even if you weren't under extreme stress.

The second way is making them pass out from a lack of blood pressure. This is done by putting large hole in their circulatory system. This is more than likely how you will take them down. So the best way to do that is to empty a magazine of large caliber rounds into them.

While also providing larger holes, the 40/ 45 has a heavier bullet which provides more energy transfered to the bad guy.

u forgot a shot in the heart!!!

a 9mm has more kenetic energy then a .45 and if i empty a whole clip of a pistol in someone 9 or 45 it'll still kill them or stop them??? i still dont really see ur point.........

Heart would be an even harder shot than the head.
Spend a few hours watching videos of real life shootouts and how they go down. Pay attention to the facts of what caliber each person was shooting, how many rounds they fired, how many times they hit their target, and how effective those hits were at taking the target down. The video that did it for me is the one where a cop pulls over a pick up truck, the cop opens fire on the guy who is drunk. The cop empties 3 full magazines of 9mm and it doesn't take the guy down. The guy opens the toolbox in the bed of the truck and takes out a gun while being hit time after time with 9mm.

In most cases a .45 is more comfortable to shoot than a .40.

Re: best 9mm handgun

Niner, you were closer the first time on single and double action.

A single action pistol requires the hammer (or striker) to be cocked. This happens either by pulling back the hammer or the slide being cycled. The trigger only performs one function and that is releasing the hammer. This is the style that can be carried "cocked and locked." The trigger pull is always light.

Double action guns will **** the hammer (or striker) and release it with the pull of the trigger. Once they are fired, they become single action because the cycling of the slide re-***** the hammer. The first trigger pull is heavier than the rest.

Double action only is when the hammer is cocked every time the trigger is pulled and is never reset by the cycling of the slide. These guns sometimes lack external safeties. The trigger pull is always heavy.

I think in terms of how many actions is the trigger performing. Single Action, just releases the hammer. Double action, ***** and releases the hammer.
