key wont go in ignition help
key wont go in ignition help
so the other day we got a bit of snow so i decided i better bring my bike to my parents and store it in there garage for the winter. i went out to start my bike and the key wont go all the way in so i cant start the bike. i was thinking about putting some lock de-icer in the ignition but not sure if thats a bad idea or not. anyone got some ideas?
Re: key wont go in ignition help
put they key in half way so the little flap that closes off/protects the key hole when the keys not in it is open..........then poor boiling water in it and lightly work the key back and forth..repeat..until it free's up then do the same with some wd-40 so the tumbers dont corrode.............thats wont **** anything up
Re: key wont go in ignition help
i dont know about pouring boiling water in there... just get a small torch from walmart and hold it far enough away that u wont melt or damage anything... that way u wont have the same problem when that boiling water u pour in there freezes too... and it usually helps to heat the key up a little too
Re: key wont go in ignition help
any sort of oil will atract dirt and get sticky, graphite is the way to go so it will limit problems in the future. a small tube of graphite is cheaper then wd-40 and will last longer, whatever you put in there most likley will stay in there, like hot water will freeze again oil will thicken up and collect dirt.
