front forks

Whats the cheap or easy way to stiffen up the front end with out blowing out the fork seals all the time, because I heard putting in heavier oil could blow out the seals quick, thanks

Re: front forks

I turn every screw in all the way and tighten up the top spring compressors all the way down.

It's not the weight of oil it's the amount that blows seals.

Re: front forks

If your not taking apart your fork then the only thing you can do is bottom every adjuster you have on your fork, like what was mentioned earlier....

you dont have to 'take it apart'

just drain the oil and add some heavier oil, and add in some washers to the top to stiffen the pre-load

Not really any harder then changing your oil in your engine

Re: front forks

I put PJ1 15w in mine and that helped alot, I weigh 195 so I needed a stiffer front that what the stock F4i will be. I think stock oil weight is 7w.

It's not hard at all but you really need to take the forks off of the bike and that takes the most time. After i got the forks off it took about 30min to change the fluid in both forks.

The main problem with stock is the fork springs are progressive.

I plan to change my springs out next and that part is super easy on conventional forks.

I THINK I JUST SAID THAT, BUT NO YOU DONT HAVE TO TAKE THE FORKS OFF THAT JUST TAKES EXTRA TIME! IF YOU HAVE A MIGHTY VAC YOU CAN DO IT SPEEDY FAST!

Re: front forks

you can be a little more precise with the oil level if you take them off but i wouldnt bother I would just jack the front end up and take the tops off and pump the old fluid out of the dampening rod in the middle with a mighty vac and then put new oil in, pump the rod up and down a few times to bleed it and put the top back on. Takes about 5 minutes per side.

Re: front forks

Changed the fork oil in my rm125 a long time ago maybe I will give it a try this weekend, so is 15w the ideal choice for a stock f4i front end
