f4i front fork dent question
f4i front fork dent question
So a semi truck didn't see me and cut me off in town about 2 months ago, forcing me down, finally getting healed up a bit and need to replace bike parts. Have a 06 f4i.
Main question; look at the pics attached please, that is one of my forks with a nickel sized dent in the fork tube (doesn't actually push into the lower fork assembly that the tube slides into). Does that tube need to be replaced or should it be ok? I went down going about 35, and I was thrown under the semi, was concentrating on rolling outta way of wheels more than where my bike was, so don't have too much information on what it came in contact with.
Second question; The upper fork rings (that hold the forks in place) LOOK undamaged, however, do they need to be replaced, or are they normally fine as long as they look fine?
Lastly, anyone have front headlights, front fender, stator cover, IF the other two parts need to be replaced, front fork tube/fork rings?
Thanks very much in advance and hope to learn me some knowledge!

Re: f4i front fork dent question
You should definitely replace that. Even if it is straight, it's lost a lot of structural integrity. The last thing you want is for your fork to collapse at an inopportune time.
Also, it's hard to tell in the pic, but that dent actually looks like it may push into the lower section of the fork under hard braking. Another reason to replace it.

Re: f4i front fork dent question
Also, what do you mean by upper fork rings? I'm assuming your are talking about the upper triple tree clamp. If that's the case then it's going to depend on what 'looks damaged' is. If it's just scratches and scrapes then you should be fine, but if it's cracks or bends then it should be replaced.
If there's a local bike shop around, you should be able to take the parts to them and they can tell you what needs to be replaced and what's ok. It's always good to get a mechanics opinion.

Re: f4i front fork dent question
Alright cool, thanks guys. With the triple it wasn't even scratched, but did bend when I was taking forks off the bike, but I bent them back to right position, not sure if that's bad or not, bike newbie. They don't seem hurt but they bent up a little, not due to crash.
Re: f4i front fork dent question
The dent you showed will go into the lower tubes. That fork (and probably the other one are garbage. If you tripples bent at all you need to replace those too. Front ends are no joke, get your **** fixed proper
Re: f4i front fork dent question
Ok, so a guy has a complete 01 front end, does anyone know if an 01 front end complies fully with the 06 bike?
Once again, thanks in advance, appreciate you all helpin out a newbie
