Dirtbike bars on a streetbike

I just put them on my 1000 and I wish I would have done it a year ago....they are awesome. I was just wondering what everyone else thinks about rockin MX bars on a streebike.

I shoulda known DSOG!!!!

Dano 08-24-2003 11:36 PM

is it a fairly easy mod? how do they do for street riding?

bler 08-25-2003 12:00 AM

yah, you need a new triple... I just saw kyle's vid, and he has em..

where do you get them ? do you find dirtbike triples to fit your forks, or find streetbike triples that take dirtbike h.bars(like the sv650's triple)?

as far as handling, it will change your riding position.. so yes, the bike will handle DIFFERENT..

Mellen_MPZ 08-25-2003 12:18 AM

feel

Its like a whole different bike....but its awesome. I have been having so much fun riding th elast couple days on them. There are 2 ways you can mount them......some bikes you can get away with just drilling holes through your triple clamp....thats how Gorka and Tony_MPZ have them.....I'm not sure if you can do it on a 1000......Mark and I both bought new triple clamps for them through www.SPIEGLER.com

people still talk so much shit about them....

I think they look and feel pimp

DSOG ED 08-25-2003 02:04 AM

i think if you like them keep them on

but if you ask me, it dont look good:nono

Darius 08-25-2003 02:50 AM

What advantages do they give you?? Maybe more leverage for long stoppies but people are going 1000 feet with stock bars, I couldnt see them helping wheelie's, how do they help overall?

MikeM 08-25-2003 09:12 AM

There are alot of benefits to them. First, Since theyre higher up, it makes you lean back further, which affectively lowers the balance point, which gives you a little more room to not hit your tail. Second, since theyre wide your arms form a triangle instead of a rectangle. The bike responds better to lateral bar movement that way. Third, theyre much more durable then clip ons. You have to really try to bend them. Fourth, theyre definitely more comfortable. Theres no point in riding around hunched over all the time if your not in a race.

not feelin em at all, maybe someday ill change but for now, nope Im not feelin em...it changes ur style u know ur outlook, the way people perceive u as a rider
Dont worry about your image, dont worry about the people. Spectators (non stunters) dont care what kind of bars you got. They probably wont know the difference anyway. The only people that will even notice are other stunters. And stunters dont care how you look, as long as your out there doin it.

Well I've only had them on for 2 days so I havent done anything new yet (well....I can turn a 12....but not circle by any means). But overall they just make everything easier. There is so much leverage now for everything. Coasting is easier....12's are easier. Its just "different" in a good way.

DetroitStyle 08-25-2003 11:58 AM

Personally... I don't mind either way. I like the streetfighter look, and I like the stock look.

But I gotta give more props to the guys doing it with the stock setup, because I know it's harder.

NickMIST 08-25-2003 12:12 PM

for all the people out there that say it is easier or cheating your wrong...when you do mx bars it is a totally different bike, its like starting all over again....but dont get me wrong, when you do get used to it, its much more comfortable......why do you think all the europeans use it.....all pro americans will have it soon.....

Jay Carnes 08-25-2003 01:11 PM

i have a spare upper tripple. I want to mount a set of bars on it & try it out. If i dont like it, go back to clip ons. Shit, bars are easeir & cheaper to replace than F'n clip ons.

worth a shot.

If it's not easier... then why is everybody doing it or going to be doing it? Is everybody switching to a more difficult setup?

Your logic.... it DOES NOT MAKE SENSE MAN!

:twofinger
it makes perfect sense.......bars give you better FEEL for what the bike is doing and therefore gives you more precise control when it comes to the most technical of tricks........doesn't make the technical tricks any EASIER, just gives you the ABILITY to take that next step.
Think of it like this, guys who lighten and tune their bikes for racing aren't cheating right?!?! because you can hand me the fastest race bike there is and I'll still lose every race because I don't have the skill, but once you have the skills locked, you then become limited by the bike........modifying the bike then gives you the ability to take that next step......not to mention IT'S FUN!! make sense now??!?!?

DSOG Thomas 08-25-2003 05:15 PM

moving my clip ons out helped a lot, and relieved stress on my wrists

I don't think the stress on your wrists is from your CLIP-ONS............:moon

Tony MPZ 08-25-2003 06:56 PM

The bars really don't make that much of a difference. Some say it changes your balance point there fore making it easier to 12 but how is that if you are doing no handers. All and all its all about comfort and if you can do the trick with clip-ons then you can do it with MX bars. :cheers

RONNIE 08-25-2003 07:15 PM

hahaha

the chicken came first, no, then egg did, no, the chicken did........ blah blah blah...

i dont care who says what..... people would not go to the "BARS" if it wasnt an advantage. anyone who says they arent are just defending themselves.(which i would do the same) Sure, there are guys goin just as far on stoppies with stock clip ons, but thats not the point. i agree, either you can do a trick or you cant, but unless yer just being stubborn, you have to agree that the bars make it EASIER! cuz if you tell me that a 900 ft stoppie with stock clip ons is just as easy as it is with DIRTBIKE BARS, yer on crack! as far as circles and stuff, maybe, maybe not, im not sure, but on stoppies, 100% sure that BARS=ADVANTAGE.. i dont think its cheater, i just think they belong on dirtbikes. :Dsmile

Darius 08-25-2003 09:11 PM

I am here to settle the age old question: DIRTBIKE BARS ARE FOR CHEATERS! It's cheating! It makes everything easy. I'll personally guarantee and additional 600 feet on anyone's stoppie the same day, or your money back. It worked for me! Call now and receive an unlimited supply of circle wheelies at no additional cost.

(as for cheating, I have yet to receive my stunters rule book or have yet to see a referee........so game on!)
I AM NOT A PAID SPOKESPERSON so let me tell you, I recieved this offer months ago and took it and wow!!! these things even come with a stunt switch....press the button on the bars and the bike does the stunt FOR YOU, all you have to do is hang on!!
offer only good while supplies last so call today!!

I been wanting to get them for a while, i went to speigler.com and all i saw was brakes can you post a link or part # or something for the triple?? thnx

WestCoast Films 08-26-2003 12:55 AM

i think it takes away from the style of american freestyle when you swap out for the bars...the attitude and the look are the things that set us apart from the euros...you take that away and?...

next thing ya know, someone will see a benefit in wearing a tight spandex riding suit, and open face helmet too....ROFL

j/k, ride the setup ya wanna ride and enjoy it....its supposed to be fun, right?

mmmmmmm.... Site seems to be down LMAO!!!!! Thats some funny stuff, guess I am a little biased my bike came with dirt bike bars, 03 Z1000, what about us or the speed triple are we not allowed because DUKER in VMC seems to be tearin it up on his triple. Just an idea to add to the mix.

Scarboy 08-26-2003 01:12 AM

Damn found the setup $400.00 WHOAAA!!! To much for my blood!!!

supposed to put an "LOL" or a "JK" after that.... right?

i am doubtin yer skills on nothing! lol, i remember when you were killin shit with the custom aluminum tape windscreen!!:Dsmile :Dsmile

zenbruddah 08-26-2003 02:30 AM

Instead of buyin a new triple tree you could, if you have the skillz, drill an tap yer stock tree an install the risers, and bars that way. dunno if it would work on a gixxer, or not though haven't taken a good look at the top of the tree on one.

DetroitStyle 08-27-2003 07:35 AM

Look. It's kinda lame that I have to preface this, but let me preface this. I'm not tryin' to hate. Gorka, NickMIST, and the rest of the MX barred crew... you're better than me. I'm not hating or calling you guys cheaters. That having been said...

A modification makes said stunt in question....
a.) easier
b.) harder

Which is it?

It's really just common sense with a hint of logic. Surely nobody is suggesting that MX bars make it harder? Or do some guys just like the challenge? Thus, it must make it easier.

Changing bars offers an advantage in feel, control, and balance point. That's why it's easier to roll one on my BMX bike than it is on my 10 speed.

Finally.... if it's not easier... switch back to clipons and let's see what you got?

I looooove high bars on sport bikes, either owned or ridden lots of different fighters with high bars. If done right it's a good feeling riding them. Sometimes though the change in weight bias can bugger some bikes up if a few changes aren't made. All good though!!!

Why limit yourself by riding a bike set up to go fast around corners.
Handlebars allow you to be more creative.:)
