Re: Super Motard (Supermoto) ??

damn i wish i had never sold my 650rr it's a blast in the turns and you are sure not to see another one like it i paid like a grand for the wheels/hubs laced up and around $400 for the front rotor (320mm) with brakcet and rear rotor new chain sprockets don't remember the sizes 15/?? all in all i think i spent about 2500 bucks motarding it haha. (W/B R4 pipe , front steel braided line brake light switch on rear brake w/ LED bar 3", definatelly more illegal than legal good thing for the buddy system when getting it tagged haha

not sure if motomaster still sells the wheel kits but they guy was super nice and the hubs were HAAN and i remember him telling me that he was looking into getting cast wheels built that would work for motard applications but that was like 2 1/2 yrs ago

If your gonna build a motard as opposed to buying one direct from the factory, the 5 valve Yamahas here in Australia have been very good. I have put 15,000 KMS on a 03 250 and have had no problems with the bike. It is serviced regularly and because of the nature of the beast I factored in the high running costs, if you want boogie then the MX based builds are just as good as the factory offerings! This one has a Talon kit fitted, Wheels, hubs, full-floating disc, chain & alloy sprockets. (About $2700 AUS.) Less tyres.

cr500 is the best for motard
you dont wanna use a crf because they are worse than two strokes
on life expantancy of rings and pistons, you swap em every 7 hours on the crf 450
the 500 is the best because you can put it and its ungodley fast
slammed 4 inches and 19's on the front and rear and its a 750 killer
piston and rings still have to be changed on a regular basis but theres no cams and cam timing and valves to set up on a two stroke
right now i ride a 350 twin two stroker tagged and inspected
so yes if it will pass inspection it can be tagged this is usually normall in most states there are no exhaust sniffers yet for bikes, but i bet you its comming
we also have a mini motard track in garland if anyone is interested
its a real one not all pavement it has pavement and dirt like motard should be
this is my favorite motard to ride of all

Re: Super Motard (Supermoto) ??

Agreed that the CR500 is a beast alright!! Is the power delivery as smooth as the CRF's though?

Re: Super Motard (Supermoto) ??

yep
they have a heavier flywheel available now for the cross country guys
you can order
but dude how smooth can you get a 500
the best way it was explained to me
a 500 is like a cannon you point it where you want to go and pull the trigger
just be sure you got it pointed in the right direction hehehehehe

Re: Super Motard (Supermoto) ??

After racing both 2 and 4 stroke Supermotard bikes I will have the 4 stroke anyday, way more forgiving on tarmac than your quoted CR500. Supermotard requires torque and a broad power curve rather than the off and on power delivery of a big 2 stroke. I have 30 years of racing experience and it is that I draw these comments from...Muzz... :shruggs

I'm sure in the corners the linear power band is rather nice too.. also, for the CRF/YZF they make clutches that drag a little for engine braking purposes too. Anyone have experience with these??

Here's one.. the STM Slipper Clutch..
