Any body know much about chevy TBI motors

I'm doing a vortec v6 swap to a vortec 383 tbi.

I have 93 1500 Sliverado with the Vortec 4.3 5-speed. I plan on buying a 88-95 350 block so my pullys and everything will hook up fine. Then I was planning on putting on the GM performance Vortec heads from jegs, and a stroker kit from eagle. Then an eldelbrock intake made for the vortec heads, and then I figured the 96 and later Throttle body would work on that intake. But the the thing is, is my computer set up going to work with the throttle body and intake and all that. I know I will need a new ECM, but the 96 and later have a completely different computer set up don't they.

So if this is true does that mean I would have to get a intake that would now take advantage of the vortec heads and try to find a 88-95 Throttle body unit. Then I also need to know what block I need, is the 88-95 a four bolt main 2 piece seal. Thats my guess. If I could get any info that would really help full, I would like to run the vortec heads intake and the 96 and later Throttle body, so if somebody knows of a wire harness that I could maybe get that would be cool too.

PS any one looking for a 4.3 vortec long block.

Re: Any body know much about chevy TBI motors

Easiest thing to do wuold be to find a wrecked 96-99 with Vortec 350 and get all the wiring, hoses, assesories, computer, etc. Then just swap it all out.

Re: Any body know much about chevy TBI motors

If your going to run a 383 i wouldn't run a TBI. Just run a carb. Alot less money, but not as efficient. If you do run FI i would get a edlebrock pro flow fuel injection set up (about $1000) but it is very easy to tune and is a **** load better as long as you don't plan on high HP +400. Over that its going to cost a lot of money. I have the stock TBI on my 90 454SS and it really limmits what you can do as far as cam and compression. I've got about all I can do to the motor that the TBI can handle. Its just nice having the truck start cold or hot with no messing around. If you really want good info check
www.fullsizechevy.com
or even www.454ss.com
they should be able to help

Re: Any body know much about chevy TBI motors

yeah i am planning on staying away from TBI, cause i don't want to be that limited, so i'm looking at TPI, cause i don't want mess with a carb ether, not sure how much power i'm going to be talking, maybe like high 300s, but i'm planning on building a low compression so I can get more boost out of a supercharger, do you think that edelbrock FI kit is as good as TPI, and if it will work ok with a supercharger.

Depending what TPI set up you use the Edle kit is almost the same deal. It works in place of you TBI system using you TBI as a hollow passage and injectors for each cylinder in the manifold body. The Mulit point EFi kit is about $1000 and will work with turbine style supercharger. The PRo Flow kit is about $1900 and is alot more tunable and can handle over 450 hp. Both systems plug or adapt into you stock computer. As far as a supercharger goes. I wouldn't bother with one personally. Paxton or Powerdyne about $2500-3000 for a kit. If your lucky you'll get abot a 45% hp increase in the mid and upper RPM range. Plus you'll need at least $1,300 for a newer FI setup and fuel pump to run it with a modified motor. So that it about $4000 not including the engine. Low compression is not a good idea in a truck. Cars run lower compression and high p.s.i. in the turbo beacuse of the lack of cubic inches in the engine and weight of the vehicle. Supercharging and Turbocharging are a lot different. In a truck you want alot of torque not HP. Thats what gets you moving. If you stuck about $2500 in a SBC making it a 383 with a carb you could easliy make 350 to 400 hp and around 400 ftlbs of torque. And about $3500 with the edle FI And it would be A LOT cheaper. My truck only makes probably 350 hp but it makes close to 500 ftlbs of torque. if you can afford it fuel injection is great but to me its not worth it unless you have a lot of extra money. There is no replacement for displacement.
