A word to the wise.... Don't get involved with anybody with out a contract....!
Hello Everyone (its been a while since I posted)
Hope all is well, Please read the following. I have been sending this to everyone I know that sells our tape. They (Mutation Engine) have been harassing anthony dorsi, CEO of Mirror Image for almost a year now.
This is Angelo from the Mirror Image Freestyle Extreme Team (formerly known as MIST). It has come to my attention through other sources that "the Mutation Engine Company," the company that we hired to help us post production edit our first film is mailing letters to companies stating that the video is copyrighted by them and that they will persue further legal matters if selling the tape doesn't cease. Under copyright law, if a "work for hire" exists the author of the work is the person who hired the company, which is Mirror Image Custom Cycles, INC.
For more in depth info, you can visit www.copyright.gov under Form PA (performing arts) for more info on this, so this won't happen to you. Mutation Engine, www.mutationengine.net illegally copyrighted the video and will be taken to court if necessary ( we don't really won't to go this far), if they keep persuing ourselves and others who distribute the tape.
We feel that both parties should walk away and let this issue die already, We are ultimately the ones that lost out financially b/c we had to give them 2000 copies of the first video. This company was paid to shoot us and edit the film. Now they want to mess with our livelyhood and our fellow friends in the extreme stunt world. Come on already.
This would be like if the video editor who edited a famous music artist, such as Christina Aguilera or such, tries to copyright a music video b/c he or she edited it. That's not the case, that person was "hired" to do the work. The record label is the author of the work by definition and has all rights to the work.
Furthermore, we have proof from court that we hired this company to edit the video as well as receipts for shooting us and court statements showing we gave them 40% of the tapes as payment for servces rendered along with 1000 dollars that was paid prior.
I apologize for any inconveniences these people might have caused or any alarming issues they might raise.
