a Hawk close up

I was walking on the side walk to my church, when I noticed this hawk carrying a varmint in his talons, flying low towards a small tree close to the walk. The hawk landed near the base of the tree, at that point the prey broke free from the grasp, this happened to be a squirrel. The squirrel bounded once, and climbed the tree to safety, then took the time to bark at the hawk for a while. At this point I laughed out loud. The hawk turned to look at me with a glare that seemed to pierce my soul. The hawk took a leap, and two wing beats on a frozen rope line to my head. I whipped out my cell phone, the only thing in my pocket, and pushed the camera button, then extended my arm to it's full length, just then with only 5-6 feet until impact the hawk veered hard to it's left, just missing my arm with it's right wing. Here is the photo i was able to snap.

There is always a hawk ploting bloody murder on my little dog. I always see it perched on my fence looking for a way to dive in for a snack.

Whenever I see the turkey-vultures circling the sky in Orlando, I think to myself "Damn, another squid just went down".
