Re: Need Help Asap
I'm not sure of your mechanical knowledge so don't be offended if I'm talking down to you, only making sure I tell you what you need to know.
With that being said. The 4 cylinders, are lined up side to side near the front of the bike. the spark plugs should be at the very top of the cylinders. On top of the plugs there will be black round things, these cover the hole going down to the piston and stuff and keep dirt out of there. There will be four of these "boots" in a row, one for each plug, each with a big wire coming out of the top. Before you do anything make sure you clean all the dirt and junk out from around them and on top of them, you want to make sure that nothing is going to fall in when you pull them out.
After you've cleaned up around them pull them straight out, it might take a little yank but they should come right out.
Underneath them will be a dark hole, and in that hole is the plug. It's VERY important to use the correct size socket and to use a special SPARK PLUG socket. It has rubber where it would contact the plug so as to not damage anything. If you don't have one in your garage or whatever check your tool kit, I know that mine came with one.
use a extender thing on a wrench and unscrew it.
When you take it out check it and make sure it's not gunked up with junk. I believe it should be kind of a light brown color. If it's different than that it means something's not quite right in the engine.
Now when putting the new ones in there make sure you start them without the wrench attachment, put the new plug into the socket and attach the socket to the extender thing and put it into the hole. Make SURE it's not cross threaded when you start it, the thread on the cylynder are alliminum and very soft, making it easy to strip them out, which would be very not fun.
So start it with your finger making sure it goes in easily and smoothly, tighten it as tight as you can with your fingers and then put the wrench on it, tighten it just snug, not loose but NOT wicked tight, if you crank the thing somethings going to give.
Oh, and before you put the new plugs in you want to put some kind of grease on the threads so they will come out easy the next time.
After you get them all in put the rubber boots back on, making sure that they are all the way down, wiggle them and press down to ensure they fit snugly, you don't want anything to get down there.
Now that you're finished go and buy yourself a shop manual for your bike. These tell you everything you'll ever need to know about fixing your bike. for 25-30 bucks it's priceless.
I hope I told you everything you need to know but if not post up!

Re: Need Help Asap
The best way to learn how to work on your bike is to have someone you know and trust to show you how. That's how I learned anyhow. Watching and paying close attention is priceless. Some people are just not mechanically inclined. Must be rough. Seriously get a service manual if can HUGE help. The more you can work on your own bike the more money it will save you. People come in to our shop and throw money away to have us do the simplist things done. Hell I have newbies pay yes PAY me to dent thier tanks for them.

i think its good to change them every winter (preventative maintanance)you dont have to worry about shizit this summer if you pamper it this winter
Re: Need Help Asap
its got 6800 miles but i think im fouling them out cuz i have a full d&d exhaust from header back and power filters, and its not jetted so i was told i should b fouling them out becuz of that, and im pretty sure its the plugs becuz i cant get it to start no more, i took them off once and cleaned them and put them back n and it started but it didnt stay for long and the plugs look like they have a lot of fuel on them, so i hope thats whats it, any advice would b appreciated.... thanks
Re: Need Help Asap
put the stock airbox back on it-cant just ad "power filters" (im assuming you mean individual filters and removed airbox?) sportbikes dont like that without jetting-either that or take it to the shop to be tuned and jetted. mike
Re: Need Help Asap
do you have a book? if not go to www.kawasaki.com in there there is a section that says vehicle information. put the mouse on it and it will give you a choice for parts diagram. you need a cheap thin walled socket to get the plugs out if you dont have the tool kit. a good craftsman of snap on socket is too big and wont fit in the hole. anyways, once you take the gas tank and air filter off you will see 4 sets of wire clips pretty much on top of the head. unclip them and pull the coil sticks out. make shure you pull them out nice and straight, the kawi coil sticks are notorious for getting hairline cracks. then slide the socket or the tool out of your kit down the hole and take the plug out. it should be a 17mm. put the coil sticks back in, reconnect the wires and your done
