Just started 12'in-Picture
Okay so I started about 2 weeks ago and I can snap it up alright--but I cant seem to hold her up there and just chill slowly. I got stock gearing. So Im supposed to be smooth and tap the brake but I guess only practice will help....
Here's a pic...am I anywhere near BP? Should I lean back? A few times I felt the "O-****" point and dropped it back down....any advice would be GREATLY appreciated...

im at the same point. stock gearing 954 and im about the same height, but i cant seem to keep it slow
edit. well i think im higher than your pic, but not balancing them out.

Your still pretty low for slow stuff. How fast are you goin?
Re: Just started 12'in-Picture
i learned most my slow stuff with stock 929 gearing if you can ,do the same it helps alot with control and whatnot so when ya get some bigger gears it makes things that much easier ,,,as far as keeping it slow trust me when you get it back far enough you'll slow it right on down i killed my bike at least 50 times from goin to slow with stock gears ..the key is good brake control and poping it up as fast as you can don't worry about looping it as long as you can contol that brake you won't go over ,i;ve watched several people including myself pop it up so fast and hard that when you hit the brake at b/p the bike jumps it's wierd at first but don't worry just hang on.but just in case make sure someone's filming
good luck and remember the rear brake is your best friend

start tryin it from as close to dead stop as you can later on as you progress you can pop it up at higher speeds and slow it down on one wheel but for now do it that way
Re: Just started 12'in-Picture
lean back and clutch it from a dead stop
Re: Just started 12'in-Picture
what i learnd Real quick, You MUST n i Say Must cover the rear brake. there is no engine break at 1mph. specialy on stock gearing running 3k rpm. if u clutch it up at almost a dead stop and u hit BP then wham ur idle kicks in ur gonna fly back words, u must be prepared to react to hit the back brake right when ur idle kicks in. don't even worry about getting to BP, just practice clutchin one up half way decent and tap the rear brake. then go higher n higher n wha laa, u slap them up with no prob and right when ur idle pulls u hard tap the brake an your in the clear

I do 12's on my stock geared f4i its not a matter of power once you get it up, it becomes a matter of the rear brake and you. I learned them without my idol up and it taught me good throttle control. But since i know the rear brake so well i can turn my idol up. I run my rear tire anywhere between 10-15 psi and i do them from almost a dead stop.
Re: Just started 12'in-Picture
Well I've been practicing today--I came home because my clutch started to get lazy on me---delayed snap---I think it is just really hot...I practiced rolling really slow and snapping it up using one finger on the clutch. Is it me or do you REALLY have to rev the **** out of it with stock gearing to get it at BP? I pulled the exup out-and theres a horrible dead zone now up to 2,500 RPMS---does anybody recommend riding with or without the exup? Maybe I should get a bigger sprocket so I dont have to kill the damn thing just to get it up...??

im only -1 +2, on a f4i, and i have to give it alot of gas, im still learning, but i lightly apply brake soon as its up and hold it, and hold throttle steady. if it starts going back just apply more brake, try to adjust the hight with your brake, for me its alot smoother

work on doing your regualr wheelies and instead of letting off the gas to come down.......use the rear brake to bring your self down.....
once u get confortable with the brake and know that its going to save you then u can work on the height and also fallow the above directions too.

Re: Just started 12'in-Picture
I just noticed that you're on a R1. Screw that thing. I went through 4 clutches before I bought my 900.But if you must ride it, here's how I learned.
Once you know that you have brake control, start turning your idle up. Start bringing it up below 5mph with your idle around 2500. Once this feels comfortable to you turn your idle up higer and start to bring it up slower. With stock gear, I was bringing it at about 2 mph with the idle around 4K. You will notice that you can chop the throttle completely but becasue your idle is so high, you will have th maintain a slight level of rear brake to keep the thing from looping. You can be much smoother with you right foot than you can with your right hand.
I ran -1 +7 on the bike later on and it was fine, but you go through a lot of crap things with the R1. Have your front wheel checked before you try rocking highway wheelies!!
Oh yeah, run the EXUP, that is what gives you low end power.
