what combo would be good , i just want something so i can pop up wheelies a little easier but yet still be able to do street riding.

 

one or two down on your front sprocket. one if you do a little more street riding, or two if you like bringin' the front up often. they'll be easier to pick up, yet not too touchy when street riding. them 750's come up easy with stock gearing, so any gearing will only help you.

 

I agree with cedz...and i have two '03 750's. 2 dn on my streetbike and 1dn 18up on my stunter. the 2 dn in front makes wheelies much easier and even gives enough torque to keep up with an r1 off the line, yet does not take away much from top end or mileage.

 

are the 2dn in front sprockets easy to install? what size would i need?

 

Fairly easy...stock is 17 tooth, so -2 is 15 tooth. It is much easier to do with air tools.

- Put the bike in first gear
- remove the left plastic
- unbolt the coolant overflow tank
- unbolt the shift rod and slide it off the post coming through the sprocket cover
- remove (4) hex bolts from the cover
- remove the nut from the rear axle and pull the axle out (makes chain loose)
(if you don't have a stand, then just push the axle through enough to get the chain adjuster plates free so that you can move the wheel forward)
- remove the 6mm hex bolt that holds the speedo sending nut
- unbolt the front sprocket nut (this is where air tools help alot)
- slide front sprocket off and slide new one on

- repeat steps in reverse to put it all back together

2 down in the front is way too much you will hate it i went 2 down in the front and 8 up in the back. i went back to stock in the front and 8 up in the back trust me if you go down in the front only go 1 down or your bike will top out at like 120.

 

I believe for every tooth droped in the front it is equivilent to 3 up in the rear.

 

If your bike still has stock chain and sprockets, then thay are 525 width. the 514x is for 520 chain.

525 - 57215

2 down is not too drastic. 1 tooth in the front is equal to 2 in the back, so down 2 is like going up 5 with a stock front. The difference however is that the front sprocket has more effect on torque and the rear has more effect on speed. So if you want to do slow wheelies or do normal wheelies, but have the powwerband kick in at a slower starting speed, then go up in the rear. If you want more torque, go down in front.

2 down 8 up is definitely very drastic gearing.

I did 3 dn in front with stock rear on my streetbike by accident and did not feel it was too much. Besides, the front sprocket is very chaep and easy to chanfge, so if you don't like it you can try a diff. size.

I don't recommend going smaller than 14 tooth on any bike...start to get too small. Alot of bikes come with 16 tooth stock front and many people run 2 dn on them with no problems.

 

yea -1 + 2 is a common setup for street to get some zip down low.. i had it on my 03 gsxr 750 and it definitely made a nice different.. speedo is usually off by bout 10mph @ 70mph ... nothing too crazy.. now im -1 +10 and thats kinda annoying to do long street driving.. but im more a parkin lot rider now.. trying to master the rear brake, then maybe ill back off on the sprocket to get some streetability back

go -1+2. i had that for about 9 months and i loved it. you will top out about 150 and will be able to clutch up easy in 2nd and a little bounce will get you there in 3rd. i wouldnt go anymore than that if you still like to do some street riding and be able to get away when necessary. im -1+11 now and i think im topping out around 110ish
