Re: Bar or not? Learning coasters

i havent learned them yet but ive seen people learn them and they hit the bar alot, because coasting you floating high and its easy to go a bit too far back.go with the bar it'll save your bike in the long run

Leave it. If you can get a quad to practice by all means do it. If not just start out slow.

Re: Bar or not? Learning coasters

I learned with the bar on. I smack it sometimes, but usually it works out ok. If you hit it hard enough to make you crash, you were goin' down anyway. Just start slow....I used first gear and coasted about 14 feet at a time in the beginning, but I got a feel for what the bike wanted to do without getting in over my head. Coasters are easy......just scary to learn. Don't let the wobbles scare ya, its part of the trick. That's what I tell everyone watchin', anyway.

Everyone that rides with us doing coasters has a bar on their bike and learned that way.

Re: Bar or not? Learning coasters

i learned with a bar.....but now that i dont' have it on anymore they are better in my opinion, a bar doesn't flex, plastic flexes......plus i love hearing plastic SCRAPE!

Re: Bar or not? Learning coasters

Ryan has two good points . But my bar is getting pretty ground down and sharp. The razor-like edges make cutting the long end of the zip-ties that I use to fix my freshly torn pants easier. It comes in handy every so often.

Exactly! I've only hit my bar once in a coaster and that was revving it and letting out the clutch too soon.
