2nd gear wheelies on gix1k
2nd gear wheelies on gix1k
I'm seriously having problems with this. k2 gix1k with -1 front sprocket and full exhaust.
I can get a 1st gear wheelie up just fine, but I don't want to bring them up too far for fear of looping it. I've had a couple of 2nd gear sit-downs that I considered good for me since i'm just starting wheelies.
What was suggested to me by the previous owner (who had 2nd gear sit-downs on lockdown) was to sit back in the seat, about 5000rpm, get on the gas, slap it shut and crank her open to almost WOT and it should come up. well, I don't know if its because i'm bigger than him (by 50 lbs or so), or what because it just isn't coming up. I'm hitting WOT when i crack it back open and the thing just takes off. the wheel doesn't come up.
I try to sit back. I'm not sure, but I think i might be moving some weight to my arms when I slam it open. Everytime time I try, I try to remember to not put weight on my arms. What am I doing wrong?

Stop power throttling it and start learning how to use the clutch. I started off power throttling my 2k 600. Then I forced myself to get use to the clutch. Never power throttle it anymore. Clutch is the way to go.

you need to in 2nd going about 40- pull in your clutch, give it gas, let the clutch out smooth & fast- this all take place in a second. stand up on your pegs, knees bent slightly, with you *** hanging over the rear seat. when the bike is coming up, extend your legs and be ready to tap the rear brake. make sure you stay on the gas and cover your brake. if you cant get it up then you need to practice more. its not going to be smooth unless you practice and you wont be able to relax unless you do it a ton of times. hope this helps, dont ask more questions unless you go out and practice first

Re: 2nd gear wheelies on gix1k
ive got 02 gsxr1k with just a slip on and it comes up no problem in 2nd...... just sit back in your seat and clutch it up at around 40 or gas it up at around 50-55 also comes up in 3rd bouncing at 75-80...... good luck
Re: 2nd gear wheelies on gix1k
ya the clutch is the best way,
what i would recomend is learning them in first gear
and getting the balence point of the bike, first...
do power on at like 20 mph, and ease it up... once you got that, then you can got first to second and balance it. dont crash

Re: 2nd gear wheelies on gix1k
well, i started using the clutch around 4500 in 2nd gear, going just under 40mph and i'm getting the feel for it.
I rode out a long (to me) throttle wheelie that came up maybe a foot and a half. Clutching is still scaring me a bit with how fast the front jumps up. I'll get used to it.
well i'm off to practice more right now!

Make sure to keep your arms stiff, especially while clutching it up, I had a tendancy to go into a speed croutch when clutching sit down as soon as the front came up.
Also, 1st might be a better choice to learn BP and stuff because you're going a lot slower. A crash at 20 is going to do a lot less damage to you and the bike than a crash at 50.
Oh, and ALWAYS cover the back brake, learn to use it, it's your friend.
Oh, and always, ALWAYS wear your gear, gloves, booties, jacket, helmet, sweat washes off, road rash doesn't, WEAR YOUR GEAR.

i don't really care to learn about BP or any of that. 1st gear just RIPS up when I throttle it up too much.
I've been clutching 2nd now and its much easier and very predictable. and when I said I sit back in the seat it means I just scoot my butt back an inch or so. I need to work on getting them more consistant and not crouching when they come up.

What all these guys are saying is true. But if you insist on powering it up, do what the previous over dose. Open then shut it, then 3/4 throttle instently (should be no longer then a 1/2 sec.). But do it in higher RPM's like around 7-8k. Keep your butt back all the way in the seat. Keep your arms loose. Then the ish will come up no problem then.
Re: 2nd gear wheelies on gix1k
dude if ya insist on throttleing it then what you do is launch it like foot of ground with clutch then use trottle to ajust if your not comfy with the wheel comin up so high so fast. thats what i do i dont poof the tire is up high i rev pop it with clutch then keep rollin back as if i was on liter bike.. but my wheelies suck so i dont know what im talkin bout. i cant power em up cause my bike dont have the power for the wheight it has to lift. just do what i just said, chances are if ya pop em foot or so then crank on gas then itll get up and wont loop then you can loop yourself off when ya roll on to hard
just have fun , try clutchin em. at first only do couple foot at most cause it dose come up hella fast when your just gettin the feel for it.

Are you saying that you don't like to wear boots cause they're uncomfy? Just get some comfy boots man. Ihave some $90 Icons that are awesome, can walk around the mall for an hour without any foot ache at all.
I also don't like wearing sneakers just for the fact that my globes have such a soft toe, I really feel it everytime I shift, it also leaves shift lever marks on your pretty sneaks if you ride with them all the time.
Although school is less than a mile from my house so I usaully just wear the sneakers if I'm not going to go anywhere else.
