Maybe it has something to do with swapping motors with a FI 919 and maybe retuning? Will it fit? this seems like a cool idea-technically its the same motor as the RR.

Re: Fuel injection on 900RR?

well, carbs are notoriously bigger than injection throttle bodies. I haven't ever seen an injected 919. Then again I really don't look all that much. I thought the 919s were all carbs.

I wouldn't an injection set up for a 900rr anyway. Injection is nice don't get me wrong, less fuss, cold starts are a dream, no rejetting for alitiude or temp changes. But the fact is carbs are TYPICALLY more responsive and give more produce more power. The best thing you can do is have a specialty shop re-work your carbs, you can get that done for relitivly cheap, (better slides, polished intake, jetting, you can add some really good ponies and make it a ton more smooth. Where as with fuel injection your pretty stuck with whatcha got with the exeption of the proverbial power commander.
I read about a test done where they hooked up a gixxer 1000 with mikuni carbs and it added like 10-or 12 hp to the bike the only problem is they couldn't get the motor into the bike.

Re: Fuel injection on 900RR?

Ya I know of one guy on this SL thats put the Fi motor out of the new 919 naked bike. This is what he said U would have to do since I was thinking of doing it anyway. U have to fab your own airbox the FI motor has the same mounting tabs for the RR but there not drilled out. He also said U would have to grind on the frame alittle to get it to fit. I have not done this yet cause I havnt found a motor yet I'm just taken his word on this one oh ya need the fuel pump off of the 919 bike. He said he was geared -2 +10 and could pull a 6th gear sit down on the highway. The only diff is the carb motor has more HP and turn more RPMS the FI motor has more torque. This is defintely the way to go if U ask me. As for this other guy saying carbs are better that Fi BULLSHIT not for what I'm tring to do. FI bike with fukin run upside down thats why they tip over switches on them. FI rocks ya U can go spend some $$$ let some one rework your carbs sink them new slides jet whatever yada yada yada mine still coughs and sputters somtimes when I'm tring to rock no handed **** then U try to get back in the throttle and it dosnt respond for about three seconds by that time front wheels back on the ground *** carbs. This guy speaks so highly on carbs but rides a FI bike makes a lot of since to me.
anyway my I'll try to rember that guys name or maybe he'll post up here. there was a thread on this 2 months ago anyway peace

Hey Javier, does that work? Don't FI engines usually have extra sensors that carbed engines dont? Like cam and crank position sensors? Ignition system?

Exactly U have to have all the sessors to make the other system work. U would have to mount the cam crank sensors to work thats why the 919 motor would be nice to swap not saying its not possible just seems a little easier. I've thought about this a lot and talked to alot of people about it it wont work unless U get everything.
