Wheelies on a zx6r 636???????????

I've got a 04 636 and i'm wondering what's the best way to stand it up. 1st gear and power it or 2nd gear and clutch it or bounce it? I'm trying to get all the helpful info so i can try to do it right. Thanks all info needed!!

2nd gear clutch is the best way to do a wheelie it is a little more predictable power is fine but in 1st it is a little twitchy and will 12 o'clock very easily practice clutchin 2nd gear and see how that is FTP

Re: Wheelies on a zx6r 636???????????

on my 03 .. i would stand up and get goin about 50mph in second... give a little bounce and nail it and it comes right up, took a little to find the sweet spot but,
those things are light though and can be thrown around easy.. Try to learn rear brake controll, If i did i wouldnt of totaled mine 3 weeks ago

Re: Wheelies on a zx6r 636???????????

first off.... l dont recomend just listening to one person at all.... you need to take in all of the info that everyone gives you and keep everything that everyone says in consideration..... even if its sounds like bs.....

but i use to have a 636 and i did start out doing wheelies in second gear clutching.... but the correct way to learn is in first gear..... get up to about 5 to 6 thous rpm and then let off the throttle and then quickly give it gas again.... you will want to start out giving it minimul amounts of gas at first and then start going up with the gas until the front end comes off the ground.... since your new.... i dont recomend clutching at all in first gear at all.... just let off the throttle and quickly give it more.... then in second gear get going about 30- 40 mph and slip the clutch in rev the motor up and hold it and slip it out real quick all in one motion.... just start out reving it at low and then get higher and higher with the revs until the front wheel comes off the ground comfortable for you..... it just takes alot of practice as does everthing.... just dont get to ancious or you will loop it.... take your time.... i would just stick with sit down wheelies for now...

good luck,
bobble

Re: Wheelies on a zx6r 636???????????

The thing with learning in second is that yes, it's smoother, but if you're just learning you're going to be going a lot faster than in first, so if you dump 2nding wheelies you're gonna hurt a lot more and so is your bike.
1st IS more twitchy, but just take things gradually and learn the feel of your bike and what it takes to bring it up smoothly.

Re: Wheelies on a zx6r 636???????????

*** that!! 2nd is just fine!! clutch it at about 20 MPH....my buddy has one and I rode it the first time about 2 weeks ago. that thing comes up like butter. The bike is lite and nimble and doesn't take any effort to come up. if you pull it up at 20 in 2nd, and hit BP right away, your good as gold and wont be going much fast than 30 once balanced.

i dont know if you noticed but this guy is a new stunter..... he doesnt know what bp is.... he doesnt even know how to get the front wheel off the ground..... he can start out mult different ways.... but the safest and most recommended way is to start out in first gear and throttle it up..... then move on......

Re: Wheelies on a zx6r 636???????????

I can get the wheel up. I'm just wondering is there a more sufficent way to do it. I also want to learn stand-ups and I seen people do it in 1st but i didn't know if it was really safe. More people said they come up smoother in 2nd, but I don't know I was just wanting feedback. THANKS FOR ALL THE INFO!!!!

I have an 03zx6r, I weigh about 205. I first started in first gear doing 15-20 mph clutched, then I got the hang of it. The key there is to do it in first little at a time. I myself cant get to BP yet but I can bring it up everytime and ride til redline. Now, in second I clutch it up around 45-65 mph, it'll come up anywhere in that range, once again still not at BP yet. Basically, when you pull in the clutch you dont hold it for more than a second, specially in first, and just a little bit longer in second than in first. Read all the sticky's that you can find, it really helps. First gear IS very twitchy but all that depends on how much gas you give it every time.
